Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo is reportedly impressed with attacking duo Steven Bergwijn and Dele Alli, who have both returned to pre-season in fantastic shape. The pair faced uncertain futures, given that neither had managed to cement themselves as a critical element of the Spurs attack under previous boss Jose Mourinho.

I've always like Bergwijn but think he's very much a confidence player so with being in and out of the starting XI as he has been over the last season, he looks to have struggled for form but does show glimpses of what he can do.

So far I've been impressed with him in pre-season so hope he continues as he is and gets more regular game time

Failing to score good chances repeatedly early last season seemed to take its toll on his confidence. I think we would have seen a different player if a couple of those had found the back of the net.

The only place he has lacked confidence is in shooting range of goal. He's a busy, speedy, responsible team player with a good amount of skill. For some reason, his goal-scoring touch totally deserted him last season, probably for the reason @Neon_Knight_ suggested.

Even in the Colchester match, what was described in the press as Bergwijn "unselfishly" passing to Son looked more like Bergwijn lacking the confidence to take on the chance himself.

They have shown themselves to be quite productive players. If Nuno can play a fast attacking style, these two can be very valuable parts of that. They both suffered a bit under the prior management, Bergwijn surprisingly so after he'd started so well. It's a decent bet that they can fight for first team places.

I like Bergwijn, he is technically one of the best players we have and has a bit of speed too, but lacks confidence to use his ability, especially if a defender initially gets the better of him. And his shooting is a bit hit and hope. (although again i believe that is a confidence thing)

The thing with Alli is that i feel we have to pick other players with him to compensate for the speed at which he moves himself and the ball...If he can add doing the simple (best in the moment) thing to his game then maybe there is still a place for him here.

If Nuno's Wolves is any kind of template, then I can see Stevie B taking up the Adama Traore role, and just using his pace down the flank to cross in. Old school RW style.

Dele... he's a raumdeuter, second striker. Lets face it, you either build the team around that role, or you struggle to get the best out of him.

To my eyes, during the friendlies Dele has been playing on the left as the advanced of the midfield 3. So he has some defensive and ball carrying duties, but can aslo drive to the middle and make late runs to the goal. That's how he scored against Colchester. Its probably his best position in a modern 4-3-3. Hopefully he can make it stick, but he's probably going to face some stiff competiton from Lo Celso for that role.

Ideally a 4-3-3 would see Ndombele and Lo Celso as mezzala's either side of Hojbjerg. So Dele could certainly operate in a 3 like that.

I do hope that Nuno gets the best out of him in that position because if coached correctly he would be brilliant playing in a 4-2-2 but currently the area he is lacking is not moving the ball quick enough and taking too many touches, that can work when you have a free role but playing in midfield you're likely to put your side at a higher risk by giving the ball away more.
