England face striker shortage after Darren Bent hobbles off
Fabio Capello has been left with just two fit strikers after Darren Bent limped out of training this morning. The Tottenham striker hobbled off with a leg injury and remains a doubt for the World Cup qualifier against Ukraine.
Bent had a brief discussion with Capello at the London Colney training pitch in which he was seen to be looking down constantly at his leg. Shortly afterwards he limped back to be seen by the England physios.
After Emile Heskey's injury against Slovakia, Carlton Cole's withdrawal and Capello's refusal to call up Michael Owen, he has been left with just Wayne Rooney and Peter Crouch, who is back in training after shaking off a dead leg, to lead the line.
However, Capello will welcome the news that Rio Ferdinand has been passed as fit to train this morning and the defender should be available for selection on Wednesday.
Ferdinand had been suffering from a back problem and was replaced by Matthew Upson in the friendly against Slovakia on the morning of the game. Shaun Wright-Phillips, who also missed Saturday's game, returned to training too and will provide Capello with further options on the flanks.
Let's pray Pav's not too tired and doesn't pick up an injury. He looked exhausted against Azerbaijan by all accounts. :bang:
Blackburn have a slow backline so I was hoping Bent could stretch them, but I guess we now have to rely on Lennon to provide the pace - it could be similar to our home game against the Rovers.
But if Lennon gets injured Wednesday Eek
