They are claiming that we offered them a deal where if they withdrew their complaint re: the private investigator we would have dropped the judicial review. Does anyone know if that's true and if the club could he in trouble?

A West Ham United statement said: "We acknowledge that the final hurdle of a Judicial Review against London of Borough of Newham and the OPLC in relation to West Ham United being the preferred bidder for the Olympic Stadium has been granted on a very narrow basis.

"A full hearing will take place on 18 October and we remain confident that Newham and the OPLC will be successful in defending limited points regarding the £40m loan that would be made to the Legacy Stadium Partnership.

"Separately, and only for clarification as we have been inundated with inquiries with regard to a Scotland Yard statement today, we confirm the Metropolitan Police's Economic and Specialist Crimes Unit is dealing with the serious matter of a private investigator acting unlawfully, reportedly under instruction by Tottenham Hotspur.

"This is in relation to reported breaches of the Data Protection Act and Computer Misuse Act as a result of the unlawful acquisition of bank and telephone records belonging to senior executives at the club and the OPLC.

"We are advised that if found guilty of these crimes, those responsible can expect to receive custodial sentences. We have full faith in the police investigation into this matter and shall continue to provide the fullest of assistance to them.

"In response to media inquiries, we can confirm that West Ham today received a document from Tottenham asking us to give up our claims against them in relation to the above, in return for Tottenham withdrawing their judicial review proceedings. West Ham naturally refused.

"We look forward to the 18 October and a successful conclusion whereby we can deliver the multi-sport legacy that Lord Coe envisaged for east London and the rest of the nation."

Looks like they might have us over a barrel .

Would WH push it all the way ?

Would the police offer the P.I. a reduced charge if he incriminated THFC ?

Levy and Co aren't untouchable like Murdoch .

IF true that we would withdraw judicial review for them to drop their allegation then clearly have something to hide

If they get to share the same cell who do you think will play mummy ?

My money would be on Levy, but having said that, Levy could probably negotiate 'Arry down to a quick kiss and a cuddle before bed, and first refusal on Carlton Cole.

Could be like The Shawshank Redemption, Redknapp is Red and can get hold of anything because he's a wheeler dealer. Levy is Andy because he's great with accounts.

Can't see Levy or any of our board members getting aught doing anything this stupid. I imagine the end result of this will be another law suit against West Ham, suing them for defamation, so on and so forth.

Just sounds like more desperate mud slinging by the Spammers to me.

Levy's a very, very smart man. Our entire case has been based on the fact that the club has acted honestly and completely above board during the entire bidding process and our belief that West Ham, Newham Council and the OPLC have acted illegally in some way.

It'd take a severe case of idiocy for Levy to then act illegally in an attempt to uncover illegal activity on the part of others.

It's my belief that West Ham know they're in a very vulnerable position right now and are attempting to resort to cheap tactics to discredit the club.

As Penfold says - more total crap from the mouths that spouted that we would demolish £500m worth of infrastructure when the truth was we would dismantle and re-use around £80m

And the club whose co-owner said several years back in clear, plain English that [permanent] running tracks in football stadiums absolutely do not work

Also that their bid was the nice, traditional, community bid vs ours being massive and commercial yet their other 'partner' (in addition to the taxpayer) is the world's largest venue operator.......

Don't believe a word of anything they say. I will hate WHU for ever more, regardless of what ultimately happens with the OS. Was LMFAO last night that they were booed off after losing at home to Aldershot

Bloody hell, this club makes me laugh - ok, once more - if we did hire a private dick to look into this case and then he/she chose to use an illegal method to obtain that information, it is not our responsibility. We had every right to investigate the situation, considering that there were no answers to the hundreds of questions we asked, and to stonewall us was just asking for trouble.

They can sue the PI all day long, it is not our concern. If a police representative comes out and offers a statement, something a little more reliable and a little less biased than the Hammers website, perhaps even an official statement to the press, then maybe it could be taken a little more seriously, but all three of them just keep dancing about with their cocks out shouting LOOK AT US!! and not much else.

And i would love to see a copy of this supposed letter offering a deal from the club, i really would. It sounds like some crazy neighbour who has shit on the local roundabout and is now trying to say everyone else is a bastard for pointing the finger. Brilliant and nothing more than i would expect from a dildo pedalling dwarf, Lord Charles' grandad and a pre-op transexual.

Didn't Spurs hire a corporate investigation firm (one of the big ones, possibly Kroll)? I very much doubt that they will have left the club so exposed as to make it worth us abandoning the JR.

From the Telegraph:

The Metropolitan Police is investigating allegations that private investigators working for Tottenham illegally obtained the telephone and other records of directors of West Ham and the Olympic Park Legacy Company.

West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady has told police she believes her phone was hacked.

West Ham said police contacted them after the club issued a statement claiming that Tottenham had offered to withdraw a legal challenge to the stadium decision if the Hammers dropped the criminal complaint.

West Ham said police have asked for the letter in which the alleged proposal was made. Scotland Yard said it would not comment on an ongoing investigation. Tottenham have also declined to comment on the allegations but privately reject the suggestion that they offered a deal to West Ham on the terms alleged.

Telegraph Sport understands that Tottenham are however seeking legal indemnity from future litigation and the current criminal complaints, as a condition of their negotiations with London Mayor Boris Johnson over building a new stadium in Haringey.
