An amusing article from Sport Witness
http://sportwitness.ning.com/forum/...d-by-fans-as-tottenham-move-becomes-levy-frie
Rule number one of playing for or managing Roma: Do not upset Daniele De Rossi. Rule number two of playing for or managing Roma: Do not upset Francesco Totti.
For men regarded as strong Romans and tough guys, the two seem to get a lot of protection from fans and the club. If anyone drops them, takes their place or places them near criticism it generally ends up with the offender leaving the club as both managers and players have found out. The pair are untouchable and do little to reduce the ridiculous comfort blanket around them.
The latest offender, after Zeman was sacked earlier this month, is Osvaldo, who not only dared to take a penalty that should have been Totti's, he also dared to miss it. He apologised afterwards but that simply isn't good enough and he's going to be leaving the club according to Corriere dello Sport.
The Italian newspaper is based in Rome and therefore has covered the situation closely and it's clear they've taken sides:
'A blatant lack of respect. Francesco looked disconsolately to the bench without anyone intervening. Osvaldo kicked arrogantly.'
If Totti was such a strong man then surely he would have sorted the situation out himself? That's a thought which is escaping most and Osvaldo is the bad guy who has to leave. Whilst Corriere were writing his goodbye note yesterday, Roma fans had already taken matters into their own hands and went to the training ground where around 20 of them, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, sang nasty chants about him whilst a couple attacked his car when he was in it.
All of the media attacks, and the fans doing their bit, makes an exit more and more likely and who could be there waiting to get a striker on the cheap? A grinning Daniel Levy of course.
TalkSPORT and other outlets brought up Tottenham's interest yesterday and it's something which could make sense. Levy appears determined to get a forward on the cheap and this could be his chance. Roma are having any firm ground for negotiating ripped from under them and it's just waiting for a club to take advantage and get Osvaldo out of the emotional basket-case which is Roma this season.
The Daily Mail reported Tottenham interest back in 2011 but Roma were prepared to pay a big fee to Espanyol and as usual that meant Spurs were out of the game. They'll be able to get him for much less now and if Roma continue their capitulation around Osvaldo, rather than stopping the situation, it could turn into an absolute bargain.
Someone give Daniel Levy a nudge, he's made for moments like this.

I didnt realise Totti was playing!!

Osvaldo as scored 12 in 18 in all comps this season. I remember when we were linked to him and not being that enthusiastic about the prospect, but it looks like we missed out there.

Yes yes yes pls... This is probably as good as we could get at the moment, I think he's mustard. Just what we need. I think I always compare people to others, and shouldn't, but I would say he's like a more determined Berbatov. Altho, I've probably said that about someone else before, but if this guy is going cheap,it's what in football terms is called a 'no-brainer'..

Daniel Pablo Osvaldo, your time is now, we have the number 9 shirt you've been looking for.

Reminds me of Cavani when he was linked with us. Wasn't wanted by most but then became a beast. Don't think Osvaldo will be that good obviously, but definitely better than our dross or empty striker spots. Eventually we just have to buy a guy like him or like Cavani was at the time for 10-12m and accept that we aren't getting Aguero or peak Rossi or Llorente or anyone like that.

If Osvaldo is in physical danger in Rome, will there be special leave for him to transfer abroad now?

I haven't seen him play for Roma as I don't watch Italian football, but I did see him quite a lot at Espanyol and in his last season there he looked an outstanding player and I was hoping we would sign him.

Realistically there are few better number 9 type forwards playing today that we could sign better than this guy, I think he's an outstanding player who is a little under the radar, similar to what Berbatov was at Leverkuesen.

If there is a chance of getting him for anything under £15m we should definatly go for it. Very very good player

You can just see it now.... top class strikr available in the summer for bargain 6m due to problems and spurs spend the whole summer pissing everybody off with bids of 3.5m over 4 years and so on until finally end up paying 4.5 for Carlton Cole.

Yes please. Not because I know anything about the player. But my mate is a driver for Pollatta and despite living in a luxurious mansion, Roma's President is a rude and cheap twat*. So while this wouldn't get my mate any money, I think the vicarious thrill of watching Levy fuck this guy over would make him happy.

So that's my reasoning. And it's as good as any :D

*not as rude as Madonna, who has rules about drivers not even looking her in the eyes. He refused to drive her. Eddie Van Halen is a completely nice goof ball though. So there's the good.

Would be great if we got him, I think he would love the style of the PL. Really badly wanted him to move here, when he was at Espanyol !

I'd take Osvaldo. He's been impressive for them this year. Has anger management issues at times but is sharp in the box.

Totti and De Rossi, although being legends and great players, do have a negative stranglehold on that club.
