An amusing article from Sport Witness
http://sportwitness.ning.com/forum/...d-by-fans-as-tottenham-move-becomes-levy-frie
Rule number one of playing for or managing Roma: Do not upset Daniele De Rossi. Rule number two of playing for or managing Roma: Do not upset Francesco Totti.
For men regarded as strong Romans and tough guys, the two seem to get a lot of protection from fans and the club. If anyone drops them, takes their place or places them near criticism it generally ends up with the offender leaving the club as both managers and players have found out. The pair are untouchable and do little to reduce the ridiculous comfort blanket around them.
The latest offender, after Zeman was sacked earlier this month, is Osvaldo, who not only dared to take a penalty that should have been Totti's, he also dared to miss it. He apologised afterwards but that simply isn't good enough and he's going to be leaving the club according to Corriere dello Sport.
The Italian newspaper is based in Rome and therefore has covered the situation closely and it's clear they've taken sides:
'A blatant lack of respect. Francesco looked disconsolately to the bench without anyone intervening. Osvaldo kicked arrogantly.'
If Totti was such a strong man then surely he would have sorted the situation out himself? That's a thought which is escaping most and Osvaldo is the bad guy who has to leave. Whilst Corriere were writing his goodbye note yesterday, Roma fans had already taken matters into their own hands and went to the training ground where around 20 of them, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, sang nasty chants about him whilst a couple attacked his car when he was in it.
All of the media attacks, and the fans doing their bit, makes an exit more and more likely and who could be there waiting to get a striker on the cheap? A grinning Daniel Levy of course.
TalkSPORT and other outlets brought up Tottenham's interest yesterday and it's something which could make sense. Levy appears determined to get a forward on the cheap and this could be his chance. Roma are having any firm ground for negotiating ripped from under them and it's just waiting for a club to take advantage and get Osvaldo out of the emotional basket-case which is Roma this season.
The Daily Mail reported Tottenham interest back in 2011 but Roma were prepared to pay a big fee to Espanyol and as usual that meant Spurs were out of the game. They'll be able to get him for much less now and if Roma continue their capitulation around Osvaldo, rather than stopping the situation, it could turn into an absolute bargain.
Someone give Daniel Levy a nudge, he's made for moments like this.
