Tottenham pair Gareth Bale and Benoit Assou-Ekotto praise the impact of their left-sided partnership

Spurs teammates hail the impact of each others performances for Harry Redknapp's side and aim to replicate the form for the White Hart Lane outfit next season

Tottenham pair Gareth Bale and Benoit Assou-Ekotto have praised each other’s ability after having formed a formidable partnership down the left for Spurs over the past year.

Both players were crucial in Harry Redknapp’s side’s lengthy run in the Champions League where they were eventually defeated by Real Madrid in the quarter-finals.

The Welsh winger praised the relationship he and the Cameroonian left-back have built up during last season.

Bale told the
club’s official website: "Since I've been playing left midfield we’ve had a good understanding.

"We work well together and we help each other, both defending and going forward.

"It's been good playing with Benni and hopefully we can continue to do that. He's a good lad and he shows what he can do on the pitch, which is good for the team."

Assou-Ekotto likewise agreed with Bale’s comments believing the Welshman’s contribution going forward is extremely helpful to him and the other members of the Tottenham defence.

He added: "It's easy to play behind Gareth because he makes his right-back tired. He doesn’t need to help me a lot so he can concentrate on attack.

"Even without speaking too much on the pitch we have a good understanding and I know when he wants the ball into feet or into the space."

Good to see Bale looking to the future and Benni as confident as ever, have to love the guy .

I have to admit that I always thought Bale would end up as our left back at the expense of Benni but as a partnership they look fantastic and I don't think there were many better left backs than Benni in the league this year.

They could form our left side for a long time to come if we manage them correctly.

danny rose as cover too

If he keeps up his end of season form then our left side is absolutely sorted. We've also got Pienaar who is very useful cover on that side when we need to tighten up the midfield.

I remember when our lack of a left sided player was the only thing that many of us thought was holding us back, and Andy Reid was supposed to be the great saviour.

How things have changed.
