Our players lack desire

Our players completely lack it and have done for years.

I watch the Liverpool players lose the ball and there is then 4 or 5 of them rushing to the ball to get it back. Ours just amble towards it hoping to get it back. Sometimes making no challenge whatsoever.

It’s not just tonight either. Think back to every time Spurs have let you down and you pretty much can point the finger at the players’ lack of desire to compete at every turn.

They just don’t have it I’m afraid. Poch couldnt get it out of them and neither can Mourinho. I really doubt there is a manager out there who could. There is just no desire, hunger whatever you want to call it.

If only we had someone who could motivate them, give them desire, give them confidence, get them playing in a system that suits their strengths.

Our manager lacks desire. ITs like some of you didn't see Jose at United, or Chelsea before, you only remember him 5 - 10 years ago.

We need a plethora of sports psychologists to get the root cause of our continual beatings by Liverpool. They have one and though they've been underperforming, this game against us will only see them gain momentum.

Too many have been here too long and are too comfortable. I don't think any amount of coaching or psychology is going to change their performances or mindset.

The only answer is a massive cull and rebuild. That's not going to happen overnight, so nothing is going to change for years.

Who then? Two managers haven’t been able to do it for over 2 years.
It's the manager's job - he knew what he was getting into when he took the gig.

If the current players aren't showing desire then chuck them in the reserves and give some of the kids a go - let everyone know you are building for the future. I think we are all OK with Rodon making an error tonight - he's young, he's new and he's potentially part of the future. Lamela, Dier, Bale, Moura - not so much if they aren't good enough go for the ones who are young and hungry - surely Vinicius had a point to prove tonight?

This attritional style of play means we have to pretty much score all of our chances and make zero mistakes. I've been Spurs long enough to know that isn't going to happen and it may be why we are playing with fear.

The More players we sign since pochs final summer the more ridiculous that excuse about the players becomes really

Poch was absolutely useless in the transfer market in bringing players in and growing a squad. It’s partly why we are where we are now. At least the first thing Mourinho did was try and right some wrongs at the first opportunity.

I suspect he thought he could turn them around. Just like the next guy will, whoever that poor fucker is!

Completely agree. I don't know about our psychology team, if we even have one, but it's definitely something that's lacking and needs addressing.

I just don't think team is as united or close as the social media want us to believe in.

Like I mentioned in the match thread, the sqaud is too imbalance with super stars like Kane, Son, Bale and Ndombele, peppering among the truly mid-table players likes Doherty, Sissoko, Winks and Sanchez of sorts. Some will just be more reliant on others while others may be putting in less efforts. Is just human nature of an organisation when there is huge disparity in quality, recognition and remuneration. It drives unequal contribution in certain sectors - ok when results are rosy, but in tough times, cracks will appear.

A whole new refresh is needed, built on the core players, rinse the deadwood of mid-table players, promote the youngsters and academy fast enough to the main core. The youngsters need to be thrown into the deep end fast. At least they can and will respect the old guard of stars. No more Doherty-buys, no more Vinicius-loans.

Sessegnon, Clarke, Skipp and co need to be integrated this summer. Add in a top class CB and CM and we may start to get somewhere.

If Bale and Vini dont shine soon they should be sent back.
