The actual big problems today were Lo Celso and Romero looking badly off the pace. Nuno as well going five at the back and not changing when it was clearly a shambles.

Upsides were Gil and also surprisingly Clarke then coming on and looking good.

All this calling for the first 11 in the return to win it, I think this team can win the return at home not least because they've got 90 minutes under their belt and I suspect the team next week won't look too much different to this, the bench might though.

Winks and Davies won’t get a game for a few weeks and people will forget and start to call them “solid squad players” again. Both miles off it and have been for some time.

Spot on. This is exactly it. "they are good for the squad". Yet again tonight proves we wont get anyhwere with these types in the squad.

I’m not saying Nuno is Jose in general, im
Just saying in this match it was completely wrong. So far in preseason we have played 433, not once have I seen 532 and it really did not work in this match.
That's why there is little cause for concern imo. We utilised a system Nuno clearly hasn't worked on extensively with the first team, let alone the second string. If we saw the first team look that tactically inept in the 4-3-3 that we've predominantly seen, I'd be a bit concerned.

Just saying Ndombele with one leg would’ve been the most talented player on the pitch and would’ve been really impactful in a match like this. Shows we need him or a similar player to at least have available to hurt teams that play compact and sit deep.

Thank god it’s only the first leg, and I better not see anyone blasting the young players. It was on the senior players to step up here. Winks, Doherty, Lo Celso. And I really like Lo Celso. Davies was actually quite good I thought, he did his job. Liked Gil, Romero was meh, but I’m not worried about either.

Lastly, every single person should see the massive benefit this completion provides. Experience for youth, we NEED the coefficient points too. We best advance.

I personally wouldn't overreact. Yes it was shit, but we played a system we haven't seen in pre season and fielded players that have never played together before. No starters on Sunday were even in the squad. Our opponents aren't total shite too, they're top 5 in Portugal. I'm not sure what people expected when they saw the lineup.
I didn’t expect us to have no shots on target tbh.

I loved Poch but his decisions in the transfer market (with a couple of notable exceptions) were absolutely awful.

But according to ITK it was a transfer committee. This is where for me the "committee" need replacing. A real scouting network is needed

Seems like people have forgotten there is still a pandemic going on. Nes definitely did the right thing by not sending his most senior players on a trip abroad at this time of the season.

The team did really well to come out with a 1 nil defeat. The home match will be a lot better and will actually be worth going to now.

Are people really going to meltdown like this over a one nil conference league loss?

None of the 11 from the weekend had to fly. There's a second leg. We blooded some youngsters. Jeez, calm down.

I literally haven't read one meltdown. Critiquing a performance with the caveat that we're playing inexperienced players is differnt to melting down.

At least it proved dane is nowhere near ready for first time football. If he cant get a kick against them he sure as shit wont in the prem. Needs a loan imo

This is the team you will be seeing if we even qualify, doesn’t bode well does it.

Holy f*ck... So now we're back to hoofing it long and hoping for the best? I know it was our second or third string team. But the tactics, the performance ... Abysmal.

What’s that got to do with anything?

The level of whimpering about a 1-0 away defeat in Europe, with the home leg still to come,. is pretty tedious.

If you put out a second/third string team that has never played together, you don't expect cohesion.

A number of young players got invaluable competitive minutes.
I think the fact that our supposedly expirenced first teamers Winks and Lo Celso got bullied all over the pitch is what people have a gripe about tbf.

Abysmal performance. About the only one I'm willing to give a pass is Dane because I'm not sure he received a single pass in a meaningful position?

If you think Sessegnon, Clarke, Scarlett etc are why we didn’t win that then I don’t really know where to even start.

The senior players - Winks, Davies, CCV, Doherty, Lo Celso - are the ones who are supposed to hold things together and dictate play when you’ve got a load of youngsters in the team.

The youngsters largely look like they followed the instructions they were given, their effort was clear and the patterns of play they’d been coached to follow were largely obvious for the most part.

The seniors were diabolical, and offered nothing.

Take Winks, CCV, Doherty out for Hojbjerg, Lucas, Son and I think we win that comfortably.

Just to note, Sessegnon may be younger than Winks and CCV, but he's played more senior league games than them. He also was one of the more expensive players we've bought. By no means in the Clarke/Scarlett camp.
