Merson actually saying something positive and constructive about spurs? Really???

Fair play to the man in that case. He's usually as one-sided as that slime ball Smith, but those comments are very generous.

Cheers Merson you coked up gooner drunkard

Was suprised myself, was straight on the phone to my mate who is spurs through and through as well i was that suprised and pleased really to hear such a refreshing view from a pundit.

I quite like Merson.
I hate Alan Smith and today in the telegraph he's produced his tactical genius to show how Everton are going to stop Bale.
Every week it's a truly laughable article from him.

I readthat article and to be fair he was bang on the money

Paul Merson has always been complimentary towards Spurs, I him saying before how much ground Spurs have made up on Arsenal. You should hear how down he can be on Arsenal when they lose, he is quality.

I've always liked Merson, he's a gooner but a proper one, I remember the 93 cup semifinal when they won and he was doing the the jug of beer piss take like Gazza's in 91, wind up yes but I saw the funny side of it, showed he cared but he's not the snide sly nasty piece of work fabrigas is.
Plus anyone with coke booze and gambling adictions has to be good fun, definitely pass the pub test.:)

Merson is mainly positive towards Spurs because Harry's in charge, and Merson had a revival of his career under Harry at Pompey.

Whilst quite often inarticulate, he does give some valuable insights based on his managerial stint at Walsall, where he is quite open in admitting the mistakes he made there.

I think Alan Smith's pretty good. he was saying very similar things as Merson on Sky Sports before the game today. and Everton did contain Bale very well, so he got that right too.

Pundits eh - my take on a few, please paste your comments !

Merson - not a fan although there a lot worse. Did he really have to move back home with him mum recently ?
Keown - the best gooner pundit.
Andy Gray - Sky 4 man, terrible. Everton legend that cheered a Liverpool goal - 'you beauty' sick & shameless.
Jamie Redknap - poor, likes a shiny silver suit.
Alan Hansen - great but used to be better.
Shearer - boring.
Lawro - pretty good.
Phil Thompson - does a good job
Windass - WTF ?!
Dixon - ok, does a goodish job.
Souness - fairly good, serious eyes.
Ruud Guillet - says 'also' too often for my liking.
Alan Smith - the most broing voice in football and a tool.

I hate Lawro. His punditry might be okay, but his commentary is anus stabbingly awful, and his little comments piss me off.

I think Merson is ok. Tells it like he sees it, is willing to stick to his guns and then take the stick when, inevitable, he turns out wrong.

What's wrong with Alan Smith? Seems like a nice guy and pretty fair. I was listening to the Fulham commentary from last week, think it was Tony Gale or some other ex-spammer. Think he slated us every chance he could, saying Huddlestone shouldn't be asking the referee to check with the lino, even though he had no idea what Hudd did or didn't say.

Tony Gale always slates us. hate Phil Thompson, don't know how any Spurs fan can tolerate him when he's so bitter we're doing better then Pool. Keown's useless too. Only one i agree with on that list really is Gray, who is the worst of the worst. I don't mind Le Tissier

James Richardson owns everyone, let's be frank

This. He should've got the MotD2 gig when Chiles left, it's a travesty he was overlooked.

Glad he didn't get the gig as i would of missed the show over here and maybe he would of curtailed his weekly Guardian podcasts which are always very funny and have been a must download for the last couple of years.
Football matters on Setanta was brilliant too.

Alright, if he'd had to give up on Football Weekly (which should now be called Football Twice-a-Weekly really, but anyway) I would've been seriously pissed off. It's a brilliant podcast, I've listened to every single one in the last two years.

Ideally he'd be able to do both.

Yes Tony Gale is a fucking cock end, he basically said the ref had changed his mind and given the goal because of Huddlestone, what a fucking load of shit that statement was.

It wasn't that though, he went on and on about it. Not only that but he found a way to criticise Spurs at almost every opportunity. I can't say I've heard anything negative from smith. He even voted Spurs fanzone commentator Jamie as fan of the season.
