I was about to go mental when I saw the title of this topic as Berbatov is one f the best strikers in the world (not at his best for Man Utd but if you recall he only starting scored for us after xmas in both his seasons here.

Pav is coming good and the little trifecta of Modric, Corluka and Pav im very very happy with and have a special place in my heart for.

Especuially Pav, he just has that look about that you know if you met him in the pub you get absolutely hammmered together and seems a all-round top lad!

Pavlyuchenko's overall contribution throughout the 90 minutes is small fraction of that of Berbatovs.

For all Pav's increased effort, huffing and puffing and chasing down players, his effect on the way we play football cannot be compared to that of the Bulgarian. Berbatov was three times more effective in controlling the ball, holding it up, and allowing other players to run beyond him - he was just generally a very creative striker with a great vision for a pass.

Pavlyuchenko contributes very little in terms of this, and is probably the main reason in which why 'Arry has hauled him off before he gets his full 90 minutes.

One thing Pav has proved though, is that he is a goalscorer and if you put the balls into the danger area's, he will be in the right place at the right time to apply the finishing touch more often then not as seen in his goals against Bolton, Liverpool, Newcastle (CC).

If you gave Berbatov and Pav the same amount of time on the pitch over the course of the season, I believe Pav could come out on top of the Bulgarian in terms of goals scored. But it could easily work the other way to.

Whilst Berba's overall contribution in the games in terms of assists and creating chances is far superior to that of the russian.

Their both good, but one is miles ahead in terms of class then the other.

Pav'll do tho, he's doing well, and long may it continue.

Just saying it as it is.

berba is a footballing great he blew his chances of being a spurs great oh i wish he would have stayed.

berba was/is a great great player while pav is not as good as berba pav wants to play for tottenham and that is fine by me. pav is more of a sherringham mark 2 than a berba.

Based on current evidence, Berbatov is a much better player than Pav. But we've hardly seen much of Pav as he's still adapting to the English game, and is also probably a bit knackered. I love his attitude, for a start.

I think that a lot of posters here are looking at Pav through slightly rose-tinted spectacles because he's our player and we desperately want him to do well. He looks a good goalscorer, and in the last few games he's shown he can pass the ball, but he's also had plenty of missess and games where he's looked totally out of his depth. Based on present evidence, he's a decent striker but no better than lots of other Premiership strikers, from Cisse, Giovanni, Zaki, Bednar, Elmander, Kuyt, Kenwyn Jones etc. There's nothing wrong with that, and he may go on to be be great but so far we've seen little that would suggest to a non-Spurs fan that he's a superstar or anywhere near as good as Berbatov was.

Having said that, I'm really surprised by how poorly Berbatov has done at Man Utd. I thought that given the players around him, he would be scoring loads, but although he's had the occasional good game, he hasn't come close to justifying his transfer fee.

I don't think it's rose tinted to say that Pav has had at least as good a start to his tottenham career as Berbatov, especially when taking into account the fact he joined us on deadline day and no pre-season to get him going with the team, like Berba did.

Is he a better play overall - right now no, but i think it's probably fair to say that judging the two of them next to each other August-Jan in their first seaosn that Pav would look at least as good a player as Berba.

No Berbatov is the greatest player I have seen since Hoddle, Gazza and Waddle, but I do rate Pavlyuchenko very highly. Wish we had signed someone better than Defoe to play alongside him.

Basically, Pav and Berbs would be the perfect strike force. We got Defoe back, what's the chances of Carrick and Berbs too...

While I agree that Berbs is a class act I dont think he is that far ahead of Pav, as a striker, because of the following reasons:

Finishing: Pav will finish 90% of his chances whereas Berbs has the tendency to try and be too clever at times.

Heading: Berbs and Pav are pretty much similar in this department, Pavs header against Newcastle was top class.

Control: No contest here as Berbs is one of/or the best players at bringing the ball down.

Teamwork: Pav is a much harder worker than Berbs, he constantly closes people down and does a lot of good defending for the team re: the block against Wigan.

Pace: Neither has any.....

What I am getting at here is that I think Pav has got the attributes to be a very good striker, I am not saying he is a better all round player than Berbs coz he isnt, I just think he will become a very important player for us!

Agree with most of that apart from the pace bit - Pavlyuchenko is a damm sight quicker than Berbatov. Not lightning quick, but certainly pacey enough to cause defenders problems.

Pav is also a lot stronger - while Berbatov had a nice touch and used tirckery to hold th ball up, Pav can take it down and hold players off the ball. Pav's hold up play is actually just as effective - may not be as pretty to watch but gets the job done just as well.

I'm sure a CL club will come knocking so it'll be interesting to see how we can compare them then.
