Must start every one of our remaining league games imo, he is the best striker we have at the club currently. Worked Green more in the 20mins he was on than Defoe managed in 90.

I know he splits opinion on here, but I really believe had he been first choice this season he would prob have been sat on 15 goals by now.

IMO he does his best when he has something to prove (ie he is motivated to prove 'Arry wrong), he gets involved, puts himself about and looks good.

When he starts though he just seems to play at less intensity (not sure if this is the right word) and is more anonymous, as if he slacks off having got in the team. You really dont know what Pav will turn up half the time.

I agree too...Pav has to start now. Pav and VDV for me...with Crouch and Defoe as impact subs.

Well it was Wigan away last season when he was brought in and then went on to have that purple patch....

A sign? Who cares he should be starting, and its Wigan away next

The thing is, Harry has finally recognised that Crouch is most effective in the Champions League, what will it take for him to recognise Pav is our best chance of scoring goals in the Prem?

I accept the point about not knowing what Pav will turn up, what I do know is whatever Pav turns up the boy knows where the goal is. He would have buried those 2 chances Defoe had from combined 8 yards today and prob the late chance as well from the left side of the box !

I don't agree pav always looks better coming off the bench...when he starts he doesn't work hard enough doesn't close down defenders, not strong enough to play balls into him or fit enough to last 90 IMO.

Pavluychenko to me is a super sub.

Harry doesn't rate Pav sadly, wish he did cause a serious run in the side could give us a decent goal return

Defoe is just woeful, sums up his season. Really wish we upgrade on him in the summer now

The joke of it is, if we had their forwards up top today, we'd have won comfortably :bang:

Our striking strategy for the rest of the season needs to be as simple as ABD - Anyone But Defoe!

VDV and Crouch for CL.

VDV and Pav for EPL.

Defoe on the bench. Always on the bench.

I have always been strangely loyal to JD, inspite of his limitations, but for some reason today I just lost it watching that finishing or lack of it.

Really tested my patience today...cant remember being so pissed off with an individual performance in recent times...well in terms of his finishing anyway.

That elephantine memory of mine recalls someone saying that Defoe should be our first-choice striker ahead of Keane for the 2006-2007 season, despite Keane's excellent goalscoring record and Defoe's relative crapness in 2005-2006.

For the moment, that someone's identity eludes me…

Agree. But I also think we need to go back to 442.

VDV should play on the right, with Lennon as an impact sub, or vice versa.

With Crouch and VdV?

We're full of bright ideas, but the bottom line is we're creating a shedload of chances regardless of the formation. Why aren't we (or, specifically, Defoe) making more of them? I don't know. Neither does anyone else.

Bottom line is we score more with a 442. Im suggesting playing Pav and Crouch up top with Bale, Modric, Sandro and VDV
