Do people want a Schneiderlin knockoff? Perhaps not an exact, limited edition replica, but a cheaper, younger, less developed version.

That's what Obiang is.

Maybe, maybe attempting to pressure Soton. I imagine if Schneiderlin is still unsettled we'll be getting linked with Rabiot at PSG too

I really was hoping we'd go for Obiang last summer but never really showed any interest apart from a loose link in the media. He's a good, versatile midfielder, similar to Schneiderlin in that he can play in a B2B role or as a DM that sits deep to break up play. I don't see the same range of passing that Schneiderlin has but I see a more physical and probably a better athlete. I'd view him as more of a replacement to Dembele than a possible alternative to Schneiderlin.

Wrote this in January when we were linked most recently:

Has a good frame, solid on the ball and is a fantastic dribbler. Is versatile in that he can play as a B2B or as a DM. Solid passer of the ball. Reads the game really well for a player as young as he is. I still think he needs to become a more efficient passer but I've seen enough to make me think that will come with more experience. He's only 21 but shows that stoutness on the ball that makes me think of him as some sort of blend between Diame/Toure. It's high praise, but I see the dribbling of Diame and the potential power/pace combination of Toure.

He's not much of a goal scorer yet, though. If he can add that to his game we will no longer be in the running for him. I'd love to bring him on, let him learn behind guys like Paulinho/Dembele and see what we could get out of him. To me, he's one of the best, young central midfield prospects.
