The Daddy of them all. Incredible player who had absolutely everything in his locker.

Simply the best. Imo would have shone in any era. 3 world cups will never be surpassed. Yes we have Messi, Ronaldo and Maradona but we all grew up wanting to be Pele. Plenty will say Maradona as the best and yes he did it at one World Cup and helped Napoli achieve what they did. Messi achieved greatness at Barcelona but failed with Argentina. Ronaldo has matched Messi at Real Madrid but has fiailed with Portugal. We’ve had Best, Charlton, Beckenbaur, Cruyff, Platini, Ronaldo and Zindane but none have reached Pele’s heights until someone does I will always look at him as the best. To do it on the world stage repeatedly is the marker and Pele did it.

My first football icon. Dad taught me that he was the GOAT growing up and I did a presentation on him at primary school (1988?)

RIP xxx

Very sad, gutted.

Today has been very quiet here in SP anyway but I imagine tomorrow will be very sombre and the nation will go into mourning.

Football thanks you for everything Rei (King)

RIP

Ffs. Grew up on endless viewings of the 1970 final and generally regarded him as the goat. Gutted by this, really gutted. Such an incredible player. RIP.

Many years ago, back just after he’d finished playing for Cosmos, my dad’s mate, Dennis Tuert was there, so I’m guessing 1980… He was signing in Selfridges. Dennis took us over to meet the great man, he was delighted to put up with an over enthusiastic 11 year old haha.

Sad news. I don't have an opinion on whether he's the GOAT but to lose one of the greats of the sport I adore is always going to be painful.

RIP Pele.

I was already feeling sad, since last night my girlfriend pretty much called it quits with me, but I think this news hit me even harder. Almost my whole life I've been hearing about the greatness of both him and Maradona, and now both of them are gone just two years apart. He always looked to me like a very decent person and an admirable role model, if there's a heaven I'm sure that's where he's now.

I think today is also the nine year anniversary of the day in which Michael Schumacher had that tragic accident that left him in a coma from which he still has yet to wake up from (if he ever does).
