I don't see how you've answered him. You've pointed out that we can play with Crouch if we use him in the right way. Stoof pointed out that too often we don't use him as we should do and instead go for the easy option, of hoofing the ball up to him, which we don't have/rely on with the shorter strikers.

I think I did but ok.

I think Pav should play. In fact sod it, do a 4-2-4, seeing as Wilson knows how the Wigan midfield will work anyway, he can boss it with the Jenius.

I don't know how Keane will react in light of last night's events.
As long as it doesn't mean a diamond or him playing on thel left wing I'd be tempted to play him.
He is the captain so I assume he'll start and Wigan is sort of like France so perhaps he'll take it out on them.

Along with Palacios i would hope no decision is made until both have been assessed by our club to find out how much these games and travelling have taken out of them.
If they are fit enough to play then i expects them to start on Sunday

The main problem that we have with our long balls is that the majority of them come from the centre backs and not the full backs-this gives Crouch no angle to work with and the best he can do is flick it on in the direction of the keeper, making it very hard for the second striker to get onto it AND stay onside. If we ever play a long ball, it should ALWAYS come from a full-back as that would give Crouch the opportunity to either fick it on behind him, or knock it down in front.

It's also one of the reasons Bentley has been ineffectual, because he only occasionally seems willing to get to the byline and fire a cross into the area. Far more often than not, he seems to opt to dob the ball in from 30-40 yards, with the same effect (or lack of) that you've described.

One of the things in our favour is that Martinez seems to favour an open game rather than parking the bus, but no diamond, please. Worth a go, but if the full-backs can't provide the width we all know what's going to happen.

Defoe + Keane for me too - crouch can take up his position on the bench

Straight forward 4-4-2 - no diamond please

Keane and Defoe on Sunday please.

I'm sure Keane will be raring to go after the midweek saga. And he did get a goal...

There is more chance of Harry Redknapp being found to be 'Honest as the day is long' than Robbie Keane not starting on Sunday

At least play 4-4-2 Harry :hump:

I was thinking about this myself, maybe your right, let him take his aggression out on the Wigan defence this week and see if this bad Irish result has inspired him ( He definitely needed a kick up the jacksee)

But surely a 120 minute non-stop run out in midweek will have completely knackered a player who is passed his prime and whose legs are shot?

I jest. It's his hunger for the game versus obvious tiredness. I reckon his hunger will win.

He'll play. I'm not adverse to it per se, but it is a good opportunity to play Crouch and Defoe together with some decent width.

in the lineup thread i went for Crouch and Defoe, but who knows, after the other night Keane might be angry and take out a bit of it on Wigan.

Keafoe for me!

I certainly hope he's angry rather than dejected. Although we can all expect some finger pointing, of that I am sure. I just hope he isn't so wasteful in front of goal as against France - he could have had a hattrick had he been in a clinical mood.

Whether Keane's tired or not, he needs a kick up the arse. On current form he's not going to make the proposed 2012 United Kingdom football team.

Do you mean current form AND nationality?
