You will be surprised how many Liverpool fans wanted to keep Crouch and how highly they rate him. Just because he is not a big glamor signing, does not mean he will not be a success.

What a fantastically potty reason to dismiss a player.

Presumably you were all for Negredo (because he has a foreign name)...but sorry Blackburn were after him so I'm afraid he's crap now.

I believe our main competition for Modric came from Newcastle...so quite why we keep playing the obviously useless lump of turd is beyond me.

Good post and very good points. By the same logic, Manure signing Owen made no sense as their only competition was Hull and Stoke....crazy.

Crouch would be a great signing, he is; proven, can play with Defoe, different from our other strikers.....and i put money on him joining us about 6 months ago :)

..........or he's not prepared to take risks on potentially World class players and would rather have mediocre/good players who he knows will put in a shift, and are somewhat effective in this league, but are nothing special. Our competition for Crouch was Fulham and Sunderland. That to me speaks volumes

So, because the so-called "Big-Guns" weren't in for him he is shit??

And who are these world class players?? KJH is no better than Defoe or Keane imo, and that is the position he'd play in.

We clearly needed a player who is not only good in the air, but can hold the ball up and bring others into play - that person could be Crouch.

Negredo (sp.) may have been that player, but who knows what goes on in negotiations - someone itk pointed out that Real wanted a buy-back clause - in other words a loan deal and Levy wouldn't buy that.

I think, if he signs, Defoe and Keane will thrive of his service.

The mediocre good players your speaking of have done a great job for him in the past so why not try it again? Campbell, Distan, Kanu, James have all been very successful for Pourtsmouth. Furthermore, this doesn't mean that Harry wont take risks on other players. He signed Muntari and Kranjcar for Pompy.

As for our competition for Crouch being Fulham and Sunderland, we had no competition for Modric so we not have signed him?

Mate everyone in the league know's what Crouch is about yet only the mid table dirge bid for him. Why is that? No one needs a new striker.

In case you've missed it...we are part of the 'mid table dirge'. In fact Fulham, who you dismissed as being part of that dirt, finished above us and are in Europe this season.

Pull your head our of the sand/your arse (in that order) and see that Spurs aren't a club that can go out and just buy whoever we want. Be realistic about how much of a pull we are for world class players and just try and be a bit more sensible.

Also remember that the last 'world class' manager we had did his best to get us relegated whereas a manager who has spent most of his life in the 'mid table dirge' almost got us into Europe after we were bottom when he took over.

How is that Terrible News exactly? Defoe and Crouch have a great understanding of eachothers game, they will have a better team behind them aswell, Defoe will score for fun this season with Crouch winning everything in the air. A good move IMO now i've properly thought about it
Crouch scored 18 goals last season. If he can do that with pompey, how many is he gonna get with Modric setting them up for him?

Slowly but surely, i'm warming to the idea

Name a good uk based player over 26 who when available isn't wanted by a top 7 club.

Let's not forget He also signed Chimbonda...........he brought Keane back and made him captain immediately, he won't play our leading goal scorer and wants to sell him..........and now Crouch is our big summer signing:bang:.....sorry, loosing faith fast in Harry's wisdom.

I would have rather stuck with what we had, there is no need for this signing (if it is true) I guess that will see out top scorer last season head to the competition then, and at a loss of 4 mil..........all great news:shrug:

He's winning football matches.

OK, im waiting for a confirmation on Crouch...but look at this logically....We want to get rid of Bent/Pav(imo)....he's not what it said on the tin...we've had a very good offer but dont want to leave ourselves short...other primary targets like Huntelaar dont seem to be happening...so we go for the devil we know and at the same time probably end up with some cash(buy Crouch for 12m sell Bent for 15m)...and for supposition we also get Young...would you still be unhappy...this is just my opinion

AY I hear what you are saying but I'm not convinced

Quick question

Who would score more goals next season

Bent @ Sunderland
or
Crouch @ Spurs?

I know where my money is

Not an improvement on Bent IMHO and yes I would love someone like Young but we all know how good Crouch is in the air so is there much point?

We have to agree to disagree. We are light years ahead of Fulham and Sunderland. We're the sixth most desirable place to play in the prem imo. I believe we could attract a potentially world class talent from europe, but Harry has gone for the tried and tested safe option. Like I said a player while nothing special but somewhat effective.

He scored 13 with Pompy - he also played for England...........he might get 13 with Spurs this year.........but then again so would bent - also on assists, he only had 5 with Pompy last year........so no more he is a great assist player please...........

Fulham finished above us last season :duh:

This is another problem with some of our fans. Not being realistic. I can understand and appreciate that people want us to sign top class players who can take us to the next level. But its so much easier said than done. Peter Crouch is on our level. We finished 11th and then 8th and we have to accept the fact that we cant attract the best players. I'm sure we're trying, but it looks like our No1 target up front is off to Stuttgart. So we have to settle for the next best thing.

owen is a has been who has a lot to prove. On top of that he's on 20 grand a week and was a freebie. Crouch will cost 12 mil and on 60k a week, and imo will never be anything more than average

proven premiership and international striker who causes problems for defenders and if playing with players like lennon, modric & keane wk in and out he will score more then he ever has.
i know im in the minority here but i would like to see him at spurs he could do a real job for us

Your not in a minority at all, if we look at the bigger picture he is far more suitable than Huntelaar ever was. Big, good hold up of the ball, a good choice to partner Defoe or Keane, the big man little man combo. Relatively cheap compared to others. Crouch is very underratted IMO, he's alot better than what most think. He's a good header of the ball, has a decent strike on him aswell and is actually quite good technically despite his lanky appearance.

Fulham are also after Negredo.

Why is he then considered higher calibre when the reasons most are giving for being against Crouch is that no big clubs want him?
