Most headed goals. Not bad for someone who is shit in the air.

Do we have anyone in the first team who's going to put those kind of crosses on his head though? Perhaps Bentley but even if he stays he's going to struggle to boot Lennon out of the starting lineup.

Berbatov is far beyond our level though, you need to let it goooo mate.

Basically we have to start again, add Crouch to the side, benefit from his goals and assists for our other strikers who cannot create for themselves and get back into europe where we can attract the up and coming stars like we did Berbatov back in 06.

Agree definitely.

Just watching some of his videos of his time at Liverpool and he benefitted from Pennant's delivery

do portsmouth have any great crossers? maybe glen johnson, but i don't recall any of their players last season being particularly well known for their crosses, given how terrible their entire team was under donkey adams.

we don't have any consistently good crossers or good set piece takers unless bentley and bale get their acts together, but surely we're still better than portsmouth? amirite? :(

This would be true IF Bentley were able to deliver great balls into the box - Problem, and reason why we will sell him, is he just has not been able to prove himself at Spurs - I am not saying he doesn't have potential, I am not saying he will never be a good player - but then again maybe he won't - we can only go on what we have seen for a season, and I think if Levy could get anywhere near the money he paid for him (another great deal:razz:) then he will take it!

Bentley is exceptional at delivery balls into the box, he was even good at it last year. it's quite difficult when you have no striker capable of attacking the ball.

Crouch will be an unsung hero for us. I think he'll be a great addition. Not only is he a good partner for Keane and Defoe, but also for the likes of Modric, Lennon and Giovani (if he stays). He also tends to be very popular with his team mates. He'll be well liked in the dressing room, and add to the team spirit we're building. We'll have several English players looking for a spot in the World Cup squad too. I'm really looking forward to this season. Its clear that Harry knows the type of players we need, rather than chasing the superstar names. I'm sure Crouch will do well with the likes of Modric, Lennon and Defoe/Keane joining him attack. I think we'll do a bit of rotation upfront aswell.

Well, yes Bentley of course but also Lennon puts in a number of excellent crosses which our strikers do not take advantage of. He puts in a number of duds also but he is getting better and I don't just mean at aerial crosses but also ones which Crouch can attack with his feet and even volley. If you look at his hatrick against Arsenal it was perfect hatrick, and two came from crosses. Also, Modric is not too bad at this as he is good at about everything.

Furthermore, as we saw Friday and previously BAE is an excellent crosser and we have Naughton, Hutton, Chimbonda and Corluka who are all good at getting down the right side. We also have Bale if he wakes up and O'Hara who has a sweet left foot. So I don't think service will be a problem to Crouch but I also think he will be excellent on the floor as well in as much as giving passers like Modric an outlet to keep the ball, occupy defensive attention and give back to Modric.

Modric's movement off the ball is world class and Crouch can provide an excellent guardian of the ball to complement that movement. Berbatov would have been better but what you gonna do?

a few seasons ago when berba and keane were in top form there were rumours flying around about crouch and i cringed why would we want him i said he`s clumsy misses to many chances etc, but my opinion has changed and like many of you have said it looks a sensible signing the problem with that is us spurs fans dont like sensible we tend to go for the take a chance on a big name and hope it works i.e davids the rumours of nedved (2 seasons ago), rvn.
I`m trying to think on this from a different angle he will score goals and wont take x amount of time to settle which could be the case if we signed negredo or huntelaar.
On a slightly different note i really dont get the viera deal ive watched him at inter as much as poss and the game just seems to pass him by these days anyway crouchy you`ve got my backing!

Sorry but I am just baffled by your statement, if this were true, there would be absolutely NO discussion around Bentley going - but as you can see there is a lot, and I think you will find that most agree - he has been poor at Spurs, and has not lived up to his expectations (high as they were) and has certainly NOT been exceptional, well not last season anyway - yes he did deliver some exceptional balls, but as a percentage, this was rare I am afraid

Many didn't beat the first man, but yes he did sometimes put excellent balls in- the problem was that even that was few and far between as he was wholly off colour all season long.

@kendall, it was 5 assists in over 40 games he got, an 11 goals having played all 38 prem goals. outscored by by bent who didnt play as much but i guess thats not why we are buying him. 10 million for someone who can hold the ball is it?

Well at least it looks like we are only selling bent and keeping Pav

11 and 5. a further 5 goals in cup competitions

bent - 28 starts in total - goals: 12 in the league, 5 in the cups
pav - 26 starts in total - goals: 5 in the league, 9 in the cups

crouch - 43 starts in total - goals: 11 in the league, 5 in the cups

hm, i really don't want to get rid of bent based on those stats. he's a proven goalscorer who scores particularly well in away games, and can play on his own.

The first bit isnt really true.

As for the winning headers stat Joey provided, that's all well and good, but how many of those headers end up being beneficial. How many end up at a fellow strikers foot? Is there even a stat for that? Where do these headers go?

You missed his cup games and also forget the fact that under Adams Pompey were woefully off colour and had lost both Diarra and Defoe in January.

It's still an excellent return for any striker and if it's £10m for a striker who can hold the ball and supply goals then yes, I'll take that. We have strikers who score goals, we need a supply line.

Theoretically, Crouch should replace Bent. I'm pretty sure crouch can play on his own, he's tall and strong enough.

ok so bent has a great record (and im one of his fans) but crouch gives us something different. if i was in charge, it would be pav making way.
