Coutinho with a smaller portion up front (payment for loan) with an option to buy next season would be smart business as it’d likely give us the flexibility up front to still sign Lo Celso and Sess.

I’m also certifiably delusional.

Instead of spending money on a straight loan, would it not be fucking better to just pay up for Fernandes and GLC? Or are we that strapped for cash now, in spite of the past two years, that we genuinely only have 20m left to spend? Absolutely mental. Plus we can bet that Eriksen leaves if Coutinho comes in, and no one else is added. Just crazy crazy stuff
We may rate Coutinho higher than either. I certainly think he’s more of a guarantee, as much as I like both those players.

20+m loan fee, 200k a week. never in a month of sundays. If we were throwing these sort of numbers about we wouldn't be in this mess already

£200k we could do, and perhaps the large loan fee will be taken into account when agreeing the post loan fee. I agree it's a long shot, but certainly not out of the realms of possibility.

Has to be a buy option, if not shows we are really desperate and have completely fucked the other deals.

Barça offer Premier League sides the chance to sign Coutinho on loan
Arsenal, despite being named as a potential destination, aren't interested; Manchester United and Tottenham are

FC Barcelona have begun talks with various Premier League clubs as they look to offload Philippe Coutinho before Thursday's transfer deadline. Of those asked, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have expressed an interest in discussing a deal. The Brazilian has previously said he wouldn't want to play for anyone but Liverpool but with Barça needing the wage room for Neymar, he might not have a choice.

These moves began last week when, as revealed by SPORT, the club made it clear to the player that his future lied away from the Camp Nou. Most expected Coutinho to be included in a swap deal involving Neymar. However, Leonardo's arrival at the club has cooled that idea and now everything points to the Premier League.

Over in England, with the transfer window closing on Thursday afternoon, plenty of deals remain in the balance. Eriksen could leave Spurs to join United, but the two clubs are yet to agree a fee. If Eriksen stays in North London, United could sign Coutinho as an alternative. If Eriksen does move, then Spurs would be favourites to sign the Brazilian.

Coutinho is aware of all these movements as he finds himself in the United States with Barcelona. It's setting up to be a crazy 48 hours. Barça aren't worried and believe, should a move to the Premier League fall through, another European side will offer Coutinho an escape route.

I really hope we aren't wasting the last hours of yet another transfer window on the slim chance of a superstar signing that never comes off, leaving us no time to get our actually realistic targets.

Can someone please explain why a big loan fee would be a dealbreaker? I could understand if there were no option to buy but Barca want rid full stop. If the deal is being structured as a loan it's because it suits Barca's purposes.

What functional difference is there between paying a £20m loan fee for Coutinho which gets incorporated into an additional £55m option to buy for a total of £75m and buying GLC for £75m in installments? The only difference is that the Coutinho deal would likely be more front-loaded and would look differently on Barca's books than an outright sale.

So we're unprepared to get close to Betis valuation for Lo Celso but are quite happy chasing pie in the sky signings who were previously sold for 120m.

I honestly don't know what our strategy is sometimes

Honestly I’m currently busy deleting all my messages to mates and tweets where I say that I believe that Eriksen is far better than Coutinho just Incase this happens. I’m not his biggest fan, however all my Liverpool mates love the guy so I wouldn’t mind him too much. I’d still rather GLC, hope this isn’t instead of him
