Only time I'd be in favour of a sin binning is if a player dived. Maybe instead of a red card if a player gives away a penalty when denying a clear goal scoring opportunity. Anything else seems a bit harsh.

The technical problem is the cautionable offense "unsporting behavior" covers a large area. It covers diving, tactical fouls, hard tackles, ect. It would require a fairly large re-write of the laws to just apply the sin-bin to something like diving, which currently is not its own yellow card offense.

Can we issue a sin-binning to members of UEFA and FIFA every time they say something absolutely ridiculous?

"Monsieur Platini you have once again said something that is incredibly daft. Please go to the UEFA sin-bin for the next 5 years."

Yes. The current system is clearly inadequate. Oh wait, no it's not.

Shut your hole, Michel.

I initially pressed agree but then remembered how Bale got booked for diving despite getting fouled, so we would of missed bale alot lol

Yup this is a fundamental problem with applying it for diving.

The only way to properly deal with diving to is retrospectively punish those who get away with it.

Indeed, i think we need more hawk eye, or just a fourth official with a screen

Frankly, every game should be reviewed as a matter of course. Then real punishments enforced for anything missed. The refs and ARs simply can't do it alone any longer for whatever reason.

Maybe worth a try for players who verbally abuse or swear at referees or use aggressive behavior towards referees.

But then Man Utd and Chelsea would play most of the game with about three players. John Terry may as well not set foot on a football pitch again. I'm all for it!

The trouble with having sin bins for every yellow card is that it'll just open more worm cans and have even more debate about how one bad decision costs a team. What if you concede whilst temporarily down to ten men as a result of a wrongly issued yellow card? The only types of offenses I think this might work for would be the 'take one for the team' type yellows, like Vidic's on Defoe at the weekend and the one Owen was insisting Jonny Evans should have done - deliberate fouls committed to alleviate pressure on the defending team during counter attacks and the like.

What would be worth implementing is a report system like rugby league. When the referee knows something has gone on, often off the ball, but haven't seen it sufficiently to make a decision it's put on report and retrospectively dealt with after the game.

Yes but conversely at least the foul play commited in that particular match will benefit the opposition team that the foul is commited against.

Currently the system pisses me off because a team can foul away all they like in a a tough game (Utd? Chelsea? even Arse, you know who you are...) and then eventually when the yellows are accumulated they'll lose a key player for a really tough fixture like Palace at home which they will inevitably win anyway.

Not actually the worst idea in the world on the face of it. It may stop most of the intentional yellows that go on. But then consider last year when at least 2 of Bale's yellows for diving were incorrect decisions, we'd have been denied stonewall pens AND be made to play with ten men for a period. Ahh just seen someone already mentioned that!

The last World Cup final would have been a joke with sin bins for every yellow card.

I think you'll find this is all down to a misunderstanding...

Platini: 'I'd really like to watch naughty people being punished in a new and interesting way'.

Passing Journalist: 'What, like a sin bin, you mean?'

Platini: 'Err, yes, yes, that is what I meant. A sin bin. Bonne idee, n'est-ce pas?

Yes please Mr Platini, and after that why don't you bring in time outs and a North Vs South all star weekend!?!? You could even schedule it at the most inopportune time possible like you do with everything else.

Platini managed to get France into a "draw" for the second pot in the World Cup draw as opposed to being put straight there as was first thought.

Don't rule him out of getting what he wants.
