So let's sack Paratici and all our scouts to save money then because they're utterly pointless in that case.

The analogy doesn't work because Conte is not an expert scout, nor does he even spend the majority of his time trying to scout.

Klopp had Salah as his 4th choice. He wanted Brandt, Draxler and Pulisic over him. Poch was gagging for Ndombele and Lo Celso. Managers are not recruitment experts and letting them have sole control of your recruitment policy is a shit idea.

The point is to have a conversation, The scouting team are not there to tell Conte what to do, they are there to support his needs and to give him more detailed information on Zaniolo and on other targets. This gives the manager more choice and allows for contingency, the point of Paratici is to then make whatever decision Conte decides happen. That's why when it fails, the responsibility is on the manager, hence why they get sacked quite quickly. This deal is not an example of a structured decision when the guy was 1 pdf from being registered for Everton.

You picking 1 example of where it worked out does not change that in Salah. Your example of Poch falls flat because for the 8 millionth time, Lo Celso was injured for 3 months and Poch had no time at all to integrate the players properly. The club then decided to hire a manager who doesn't believe midfielders are a real thing and was another shining example of a club that consistently hires resources such as managers, players, directors of football and other staff that don't fit together because it has no idea what it wants.

Well hasn't Conte complained about Lucas being unavailable for ages? If it's now clear Lucas won't play again this season or is going back to Brazil I'm positive Conte has been complaining to the board/Paratici/tea lady that we lack an experienced replacement.

So we're opportunistically acting out his plan when we realised we could get Danjuma on the cheap. Everyone is right!
I'm with you on this - I wonder if something is happening with Lucas this week

Big fan of this move! Really think he has been a standout over the last couple seasons for Villarreal, great pickup on loan and knows the league, will get up to speed right away and challenge for a role. Wouldn't be surprised if he impressed and we picked him up permanently in summer, especially on a player swap with GLC.

Definitely prefer this to spending crazy money on an often injured player in Zaniolo.

As soon as I heard he was available I wondered if we would go for him. Liverpool had a look at him in the summer apparently.

Why does everyone blame Levy for any cheap/left field signing when we have a Director of Football who we all lauded for his football knowledge when he joined ?
Because the implication from the ITK's is he wasn't on our list at the start of the window and we didn't have any interest as recent as yesterday but his agent called us so we decided to nab him. Of course that might not be true, but it certainly makes sense considering he was essentially completely set to go to Everton. I guess we will need to wait to see how everything unfolds and when we get more info from the ITK's etc but from the initial perspective it doesn't seem like there was any planing involved with this one. I think we just have to hope that Conte is completely behind this one.

Hah, if that's the case, then win-win! We'll have to wait and see if we learn more about the decision, but I don't think it hurts for people to discuss it--and should be able to do without being called names (not saying that's you, btw).

As for Danjuma being a Moura replacement, that doesn't make a lot of sense to me. He's played the majority of his games at CF and LW. Moura was Deki's backup, which now seems to be Gil's role. All this does for me is add a third option behind Son and Richarlison: unless Conte has the plan to re-position Danjuma to the right.

If he does well it could be beneficial on multiple fronts - Successful loan means we trigger the buy option and Villareal can give us Danjuma plus cash for Lo Celso. Win Win

He isn’t anywhere near good enough to take over from Son long term imo, unless he improves significantly.

He has been really poor this season for Villarreal, missed an open goal recently.

We’d have to hope he can completely ignite like Deki did but I have my doubts.
He must be good enough to take over from this current version of (and we desperately hope not this way forever) Son. FFS I think I might even be and I'm 53! And if Son wants to do something about it he will need to actually start playing better if he isn't completely shot.

Because Levy gets involved...see Spence,Djed.

And when cheap inexpensive opportunities become available it reeks of Levy. This could be a great signing, only time will tell. And, as part of a bigger window - it would be an upgrade on what Lucas can offer right now.

You mean the player that by all accounts Paratici scouted, Conte approved as we needed an additional HG option in the squad, and Levy only negotiated for because he had an existing relationship with Spence's agent?

People need to stop thinking about 'backing the manager' when it comes to recruitment.
They should think 'manager needs to make the signings work'.
A manager who only gets results from big signings isn't a top manager. At the moment Conte's not getting enough out of this squad.

Just re-watch (or watch) Moneyball. Okland A wouldn't be where they are if they traded players the coach wanted.

But the question is does Conte feel the same. Obviously we don't know what the deal is currently with Zaniolo so we have to hope that its still going ahead also, unless Conte has had a complete change of heart.

Looks like this lad called it first, might be worth keeping an eye on his account for rest of window. Leaks on our stuff tend to come from Italy.

Given our links to Trossard, it seems obvious that LW has been on the table. Creating a short term solution to a long term problem isn't opportunistic.
Maybe, who knows? Trossard's link seemed to be us trying to get him on the cheap than any real interest if his agent was to be believed. IMHO, a short-term opportunistic 'solution' is the enemy of a long-term plan. Has it ever really worked? At the end of the day, I have no issue with us signing him, and if Conte is cool with him and actually plays him, then it's all gravy. Time will tell, but given Richarlison, Spence, Bissouma, Skipp, and Gil rarely get chances even when it's clear the first XI needs freshening up, I can't see Danjuma playing much, especially so if Conte didn't want him. But I'll repeat: I'm excited to see what Dan can do and I hope he gets the opportunity to stake a claim.
