Yea I see your points but I still think he has limitations in terms of strength and pace and if we want to go for a title then that would be one of the spots we’d look to upgrade if possible

Sorry brother, I think you are wrong on this one.

You need consistency in his position and the tenacity to get forward when he is required to. Conte puts a lot of responsibility on the two wider CB's roles and I think BD has proven he has what it takes to play there and do the job required. Not sure how many LCB specialists there are out there but I think we would be hard pushed to find someone that can walk into the team ahead of Davies. Upgradable for a hefty price, sure - very upgradable, not too sure there are that many replacement candidates out there.

Whilst I'd be happy with like-for-like back up for Davies so we can rotate and cope with injuries, I think players like Gvardiol or Bastoni would be an upgrade.

They would also be MINIMUM 50-60m that could go to more pressing positions.

He’s adequate for top 4 and good backup in the squad but you can’t challenge City & Liverpool (yes I know we beat City twice blah blah blah with Ben Davies in your side

So slow it’s painful

We’ll see how much the club backs Conte in the summer but history tells us we won’t splash good money on an upgrade when we don’t really really need to

So. We did challenge, match, or beat Liverpoo & Man City with Davies in the team.

But we can't challenge, match, or beat Liverpoo & Man City with Davies in the team.

A defence is about partnerships and our trio at the back have good chemistry so I wouldnt meddle with it. We do need a defender but to replace Tanganga and Rodon and keep Sanchez.

We may have challenged, matched or beat City and Liverpool on the day, but we haven’t been able to do that over the course of the season.

I think Davies has improved massively under Conte and improving other areas of the team is a higher priority right now, but i think eventually his position will have to be looked at.

Davies has done really well and is a great player to have in the squad, but we need more than just Romero to provide build up from the back and Davies passing/composure on the ball is fine but really nothing special.

We rely too much on Romero at the moment and Dier's long passing is too inconsistent - we need another proper passing CB if we want to elevate our build up play and Davies, while a solid defender, will never be that.

Best game in a spurs shirt imo.

You’re right to a certain extent but it’s up to the incoming players to prove they’re worthy of replacing our current back 3 but we still need better depth even if they cannot replace immediately

Davies has been brilliant under Conte.. given we seem to be looking at CBs still, they’re going to have to be very good players to push him out. If we do upgrade then he’s a brilliant player for the squad - think of how much City paid for the likes of Ake - would take Davies all day.

If he was a new signing, he’d be getting top 5 CB in the league shouts for how he’s performed for us this season. What a season, what a professional, what a guy. Need another LCB option for sure because I dread what would happen if Davies got injured, but they’re gonna have produce top drawer performances consistently to match what Davies has done. An incredible season and so happy because he’s been the best teammate and professional from the outside looking in at least.

Indeed, seem all the more harsh when we buy someone new in his position and he becomes bit part.
But we must get stronger all over

I prefer to deal in the present. Present form Ben Davies is absolutely great in his LCB role under this set up. He’s physical enough that he can get away playing more centrally alongside two others, and whilst he was never a fast and attacking full back, he is more than mobile enough for the position he’s currently playing.

Yes, by all means get another quality centre back to throw into the mix alongside the current 3 starters, but it’s no given at all that Davies would be instantly and entirely losing his starting place tbh.

Under Conte our league form was third. A good few of the missing points were 0-0 or 0-1 losses to teams we just couldn’t break down if they sat back. Our form under Conte does not really contain any noticeable deficiencies in defence. Man Utd away a Ronaldo masterclass, Southampton 2-3 a good while back. The cases are minimal

Nice 30 yard shot today btw. Was a decent save

He's always been a top professional, but this has easily been his best season at the club. Would win the most improved player award, and I don't mean that to be condescending. ??
