We’re not trying to attack in moments anymore though we’re trying to sustain pressure. It’s why Sonny isn’t an immediate natural fit and why we were right to steer clear of a player like Harvey Barnes. Brennan is in that mold as well. We’re not looking to play in transition so much anymore. That’s why the link is a bit jarring.

Sonny Isnt a fit because he rarely crosses ball in open play . He also rarely goes either side of defender. And when he does cross it he is not great at it. It’s just that Sonny has moved on in last 5 years - it’s difficult for him to unlearn and relearn the new needs

He's just not someone you want to spaff 50m on. If he wasnt home grown or playing in the prem we wouldn't be discussing him.
I think this is probably true. Genuinely if he’s being signed to play right wing as well we’re better off giving Gil a proper shot when he’s healthy. He’s actually a better a fit.

Johnson doesn’t do those things consistently either.

I keep coming back to it. I can’t help but think he is a West Ham or Brentford type signing.

He isn’t the type of player a side trying to be competitive in the top 4 or beyond should go for imo.

It is weird cause he’s also a part of that. I think he is talented don’t get me wrong. I’m Welsh and he’s our next big hope up top. But there’s little to no evidence that his profile is a good fit for what we’re trying to do now. A pure mobile 9 like Vlahovic or a 1v1 specialist like Lauriente or Doku (Mitoma would be the dream but he’s a 100mil player now) would be better. You can like the player. I do as well. But you can’t really say definitively that he’d suit our system.

Saying “He is a part of it” means you are blaming on him how the build up play is done. In traditional sense he is a forward, ball had to be taken to him from proper build up.
You put a Haaland in Forest side , he will too look bad. Ofcourse , he will have better finishing % than Johnson but still numbers will be less than 20.

This is my opinion (I could be right or wrong)
Johnson has the technical ability. That’s undeniable. He has speed. He can carry ball at speed. He can cross well from right side in open play. He can finish in box if given a chance.

But to do all these things, Forest have to progress the ball into final third which they rarely do. If they do, most times Johnson would have had a hand in it.

We can’t categorically say he will be a fit or not a fit. If Ange & current scout team believes so be it

Spot on. It's no surprise teams who have been up there recently, the likes of City, Liverpool and Arsenal last season carry at least one player with the ability to do that. Truth is if you are one of the big names in the league, you are going to be faced with teams who sit back and cut space out a fair bit. Just having pace and the ability to cross isn't going to cut it in those situations.

The two wingers we have who play like that in Solomon and Gil are probably the two furthest down the pecking order as well lol

On the basis of hope he will come good ?
I think there's a player there I always hope all our players come good

I've always said Royal is a good player

Porro will come good

And think Gill will too

Think there was a player in Sanchez but to late considering his age now

Did you watch him in the arsenal game? If you did I can't see why you'd want that?
Yes, I watched Arsenal outplay Forest
79 to 21 possession
200 passes all game - pretty sure most are back passes or GK to CB passes.

I don’t think I will asses his performance in this dire game.

Regarding Gil, I'm quite keen to see what Postecoglou can do with him. He is another one where I think he needs to be given that licence to go out and express himself, something that was never going to happen under Conte. Think the concerns over physicality for the league are valid however and something he will probably need to work on but definitely intrigued to see how he would get on.

You need to charge your phone. Watch the glaring chances Johnson missed as that's what I watched.

Yeah cos none of our players have ever had games when they missed chances? Fair enough if you don't want Johnson (I'm not convinced either) but a couple of missed chances in a specific game means little.

So, again you are going to assess him in a game where Forest were completely outplayed ?
Showing a video clip of a miss (kind of miss can happen to anyone) is now used to pass judgement ?

I dont think anyone here made a case for him to be prolific striker scoring 25 goals a league season anyway.
He will miss chances like every other forward we will get linked this season.
