I wouldn't want him if he was free

We need to improve our first team not add average players into an already bloated squad

I’d happily take him if he was free, homegrown is a constant thorn in our side and he’s good enough to be a squad player. If he came through our academy and played like he did in the Championship we’d all be thrilled.

However I think Forest are going to ask much more than £30m, and I also think Wham will probably overpay pretty happily.

Chelsea add Brennan Johnson to target list and ready to let Newcastle buy Hall

  • Spurs and West Ham also keen on Nottingham Forest winger
  • Fee for left-back Lewis Hall likely to be initial £28m
Chelsea have added Brennan Johnson to their list of attacking targets and have held initial talks with Nottingham Forest over a move for the winger.

It has been a busy summer for Chelsea, whose quest to balance the books is likely to lead them to agree to sell the 18-year-old left-back Lewis Hall to Newcastle for an initial £28m, and Johnson is one of several offensive players on their shortlist.

They are understood to have activated Michael Olise’s £35m release clause, but it is understood the deal for the Crystal Palace winger is not certain to go through. Palace are unhappy with how Olise has been approached by Chelsea, who insist their behaviour has been above board.

Discussions over Johnson are at an early stage. The possibility of including players as part of a deal for the versatile Wales international have been discussed with Forest, who value the 22-year-old at about £45m. Johnson, who also has interest from Tottenham and West Ham, played a key role in Forest winning promotion from the Championship in 2022 and he helped them stay in the Premier League by scoring eight goals last season.

If Johnson joins Chelsea he would compete with Raheem Sterling, Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke for a starting place. Mauricio Pochettino wants more depth after losing the France forward Christopher Nkunku to a long-term knee injury and Johnson fits the strategy of targeting young players. It is unclear whether Chelsea’s interest hinges on the outcome of their pursuit of Olise, who is out with a torn hamstring.

I'll happily take Olise if he doesn't go to Chelsea :D

Even give them Spence on loan as a sweetener

There’s just no way that’s true at all. Sterling, Mudryk, Madueke, Olise, Maatsen, Ziyech, Moreira, Angelo already on their books for the wings and Nkunku can play there too.

Think he would be an alternative to Olise, if that article is to be believed.

Alternative as in sign him instead? Apologies, I didn’t read it because I thought of how many wingers they have and called bullshit instantly haha

I doubt this is actually the case, but there were reports that Palace were looking into the possibility of reporting Chelsea for tapping up Olise.

With all the eyes on Chelsea's spending at the moment, I wonder if that has potentially scared them off the move and that's why they're now looking at Brennan Johnson.

In the article, it says the Olise deal isn't certain to go through.

But yeah, definitely can't see them signing Johnson & Olise with the amount of wingers they have (although it's Chelsea so you never know :D )

Olise has just signed a new contract LOL

So Johnson really is an alternative then.

1) Great if they take Johnson - can't see it personally - but great if they do

2) Great if it frees up Olise, I think he'd be ideal

3) We should be all over Lewis Hall - he's going to be brilliant

So, in summary:

1) almost certainly bullsh*t, which means...

2) won't happen, and...

3) they'll never sell to us anyway

Oh well

Ok maybe this is actually 100% the case! 😂

Wow. Great result for Palace, that.

How very sensible of Olise - genuinely, good on him. He's just made a very sensible career choice there IMO
I think he would've probably made that right wing spot his own at Chelsea given the chance but yeah it's defo a risk. Can he guarantee minutes when there are 2 or 3 other expensive players competing with him for one spot and a chairman willing to drop huge money on another player at a moment's notice.

Think staying at Palace and waiting for a clearer opportunity is probably the wise move in the short term.
