21 points between them last season and a playing style that probably suits him better, so it’s not a cut and dry decision either way.
But I'm still not convinced an offer from Brentford would convince him to leave Nottingham Forest. As I understand it he hasn't been hankering to get away from Forest at any cost it's just that he's ambitious and obviously has his eye on the main chance and Spurs represent that opportunity so he's all for it.

Am I right in assuming when we send Levy to conclude the deal we’re confident of getting it done?

He kinda finishes the deal a lot of the time?

According to reports they have been tracking him all summer. Surely they wouldn’t put in a bid if they didn’t think there was at least a chance of getting him. I agree that he’d very likely pick us over them, after all the reports say we still favourites, but if he only wanted us I would have thought Brentford would have distanced themselves much like Newcastle did with Maddison.

The ITK’s would know more but I believe he has been handling most of the deals now as we don’t have a DoF and Munn isn’t working in an official capacity. Could be wrong of course.

That's the impression I have. If I have it right the intermediaries do a lot of the leg work and Levy comes in at the end to either iron out issues or sign it off. Due to the limitations on how much the intermediaries can physically do and be responsible for levy is still needed on the deals.

Someone else may have a better understanding though

It’s been a recurring theme that when it’s reported that Levy is personally involved it gets done shortly thereafter.

Intermediaries do a lot of the heavy lifting for Levy don’t they?
Given a baseline to work on.

Seeing Forest bid and negotiating for a few players hints at this being quite far along to.

If they are up against FFP then this gets done. Sanchez probably goes the other way as a loan with obligation so that it doesn’t get accounted for until next summer and they get to book £40M+ profit on the sale

We can’t do a loan with obligation for Sanchez he’s out of contract next summer.

For sure he won’t do everything but I also wouldn’t assume that just because Levy is more actively involved now that it’s close to being done. Seems like it’s a tricky deal due to their interest in a few of our players, other clubs interested and the time left in the window. A lot of moving parts. I’d expect Levy to be heavily involved with every deal when time is tight as there’s not much room for protracted negotiations.

That being said I’d be surprised if this deal doesn’t happen at this point.

There are plenty of small/slight players who’ve made a real impact in the premier league. It’s all about getting a little strength to ride challenges. Modric, Silva, etc etc all managed to do that quite well.

I keep thinking back to Gil’s performance against Palace last season where he was very very good. I’d like to see him given a chance too. I see him being more useful on the left than on the right though.

Except Modric and Silva have a wide range of playmaking skills that made them stand out. Elite vision, passing ability, and could slow down or speed up tempo at will. Gil's game is far more direct and frenzied, and besides physical strength he lacks striking power and composure in front of goal when he's not afforded time and space to do what he wants

Even the purchase of sanchez won’t hurt them from that perspective. They book the 40M gain on johnson all up front and then amortize the purchase of Sanchez over 5 years. So if Sanchez is 15M, forest still make 37M (ie 40 - 3) profit this year.

I wouldn’t be totally shocked if that’s why the 50M figure is being bandied about. We can buy Johnson for 50 if Sanchez is valued at 20-25. It’s the Paratici special. That would bump Forest’s year 1 profit up to 45M (50-25).

If Brennan can run as fast in a straight line as this thread goes in circles, then we'll be laughing.
