It’s interesting that both our other two supposed wide forward targets, Fati and Bakayoko, are both 20 and thus wouldn’t need to be registered. I’m sure it’s a big reason we want Tosin in defence is because he’s HG. Nico Williams is only just 21 tho so also wouldn’t need to be registered but that release clause needing to be paid in one go is very likely a big stumbling block one would think.
In a years time the homegrown problem will creep up again.

I really think the homegrown prospect is a big part of our recruitment at the moment

we could also get Bakayoko for around £25m or so and he has a higher ceiling.
Based on what, exactly?

This is fast becoming my pet peeve of the transfer window. It’s such a nonsense phrase, that an amateur observer such as ourselves would have no tangible way of knowing.

It’s starting to feel a get out of jail free card for people who want the latest “hipsters choice” player.

Oh I agree but we will also be loosing several as well Perisic for example will likely go, Son only has two years left on his contract etc. I think there will naturally be quite a lot of turnover in over the next two seasons with young players coming through

Brentford been after Johnson for a while. Almost every transfer window since Jan 2021. First Brentford bid for him was 10m+ addons in 2021. Everytime, Forest rejected them. Had Forest not promoted in playoff , he would have been sold.

If Brentford are moving on now, says to me, that we have made a breakthrough of sorts.

Or that they are unwilling to pay £50+ mil for him.

Or Johnson has made it abundantly clear we are his preferred choice.

No point Brentford flogging a dead horse

Or that the fee is simply insane

Just not sure it changes much. We know he wants us, Brentford probably do to. They’ve made a big offer and it got rejected, they’ve probably reached their ceiling.

Our issue was always going to be the fee (or getting all the pieces in place for swaps) not Brentford.

I dont think a 50m fee on Johnson is insane for his age, profile & position he plays....when you look at how the market is today. Having said, I dont think we will pay 50m as well.
Its probably, Johnson preference to us turned Brentford away

Lets not be focussed on fee - wages are the key. His current salary is 1.5m a year. We can double or triple his wages easily.

Certainly great prospects both Barcola & Bakayoko.

But both completely unproven at any level
Barcola - 5 goals in 25 ligue 1 games
Bakayoko - 5 goals in 25 Eredeivsie games

Bakayoko though had 6 assists last season - 15 G/A in all comps. As well as 4 assists in 6 matches this season in all comps.

Johnson had 10 g, 3 assists in all comps last season.
Had 19 goals, 9 assists in all comps the season before (mostly in championship)

The potential is definitely there for him as well. Just depends how you rate the Championship and performing in a near relegation side.
