I would imagine the Sanchez and Johnson deals will be separate. Just like the Maddison transfer.

We probably value Dav at around £15m, so I don't actually think the final fee for Johnson will be that bad.

Bearing in mind that we will probably have favourable payment terms too.

I'm excited for a bit of pace in the team :D

Interesting valuation here.

Maddison age 26, 1 year left on deal, relegated club basically having to sell, very proven top class player =£40mil

Johnson age 22, 4 years left on deal, PL side who need him to fight to stay up, good player 8 goal season in struggling side but not as proven quality as Maddison = £tbc but seemingly £45m+

I’d say given the above, £45mil would be a fair fee for him.

Homegrown players do come at a premium and we need to add numbers.

But this feels like a huge amount of money for a player that looks a bit like a right-footed Matthew Etherington.

Ironically I think he probably would have done quite well in Conte's system - having a tall, strong player that can carry the ball at pace on the counter attack would have been ideal for him. But there ya go.

Tottenham close in on £50 million deal for Brennan Johnson

Nottingham Forest winger prefers move to Spurs over Brentford

Tottenham Hotspur are getting closer to agreeing a £50 million deal for Brennan Johnson with the Nottingham Forest forward preferring a move to Ange Postecoglou’s side over Brentford.

Postecoglou is keen to improve Tottenham’s striking options after the sale of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich. The club’s good start to the season, with seven points won from three games, has come amid a lean run of form for Richarlison, the Brazilian who has been starting at centre forward for Tottenham.

Brentford, who had a bid rejected in the summer, are still interested in the 22-year-old Wales forward but it is understood he would prefer a move to Spurs.

Forest are confident Tottenham will reach their valuation with the potential of players heading to the City Ground as part of the deal. It is understood centre back Davinson Sánchez is one of the players under consideration to head to Forest. Talks between the two clubs over the deal are said to be progressing ahead of Friday’s deadline.

Our forward group is the weakest part of the squad and we're adding another depth level player for basically half the amount we got for Kane. It's such crap. We need proper quality up there to really push on and we're ignoring that for "creative deals" because we've fucked the HG issue. Would rather they give an academy player like Santiago the odd go than sign a fourth winger under the age of 23 who's not proven completely himself.

Transfer fees are fucking mad nowadays. Driven by those Chelsea pricks paying stupid money for players and intentionally driving the prices up like when Abramovich came in twenty years ago and did the same thing.

Is Brennan Johnson half the player that Declan Rice or Moisés Caicedo are?

50m doesn’t seem too bad when considering the prices other teams are paying.

From a Forest forum:
Sadly, the journalist behind that article (Charlotte Duncker) has a good track record when it comes to Forest news from what I recall, so this is probably true.

Do you think if Kane had 4 years left on his deal we'd sell him for £100m?

Totally agree.

Tony Bloom at Brighton and Matthew Benham at Brentford, they own Starlizard and Smartodds respectively. These companies have ridiculously advanced models that are used to predict the outcome of matches with greater accuracy than betting companies. Starlizard hires quants out of investment banks - a few people I started out with have moved there. Starlizard put huge wagers on in Asian markets for their gambling syndicate - the rich give them money to diversify their investments away from financial markets/property/art etc. Huge amounts of data will be fed into these models but I have heard easily the most important is individual player data and knowledge of which players will be playing. You can guarantee that they have successfully used this data in their recruitment at the football clubs they now own - both clubs have seen incredible rises up the leagues and generally recruit both players and managers very well.

To bring this vaguely back on topic, it is a good sign that Brentford are so interested in him.

This is an excellent article on Bloom
/Starlizard. Love that he is the only high level poker player who just does it for fun rather than to earn a living.

I bet Brighton's computer never predicted getting their arse spanked 3-1 at home to West Ham!😊

Links for Regi to Fulham, Man U and maybe Forest. Maybe Dav Sanchez to Forest and Tanguy to PSG

TRANSFER CONFIDENTIAL: Spurs may offer cash plus players for Johnson to fend off Brentford

SIMON JONES
AUGUST 29, 2023

BRENNAN JOHNSON’S move to Tottenham is expected to take shape after Spurs’ Carabao Cup game at Fulham tonight.
Talks took place at the weekend over a move that Confidential first told you about in July and Tottenham are willing to offer cash plus players.
Some of those potentially available as part of the deal could feature this evening and the game will give Steve Cooper the chance to assess who could fit in with his Nottingham Forest side.
Brentford have not gone away, either. They made another approach for Johnson at the end of last week after bids up to £40m were rejected earlier in the window and a £34m offer for Nicolas Gonzalez was dismissed by Fiorentina.
Meanwhile, Spurs were among the clubs in attendance for Metz’s trip to Clermont Foot on Sunday, where another potential target, Georges Mikautadze, scored the winner for the visitors.

Dier set to defy Ange and stay put for a year

TOTTENHAM are looking to offload a number of their squad before Friday’s 11pm deadline but defender ERIC DIER would prefer to see out his contract and leave as a free agent next year.
FULHAM are among the clubs to have considered the England international (pictured), who has dropped down the pecking order under Ange Postecoglou following the arrival of Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg.
Tottenham are hoping to shed a number of other squad players.
One is left back SERGIO REGUILON, amid interest from Fulham, Manchester United — to a lesser degree — and Nottingham Forest. DAVINSON SANCHEZ is another who has drawn interest from Forest, Fulham and Monaco, while Argentina midfielder GIOVANI LO CELSO has caught Napoli’s eye.
One surprise could be PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN returning for midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.PSG have asked about the 26-year-old in each of the last three windows and are considering another bid.

What's that got to do with anything? We sold him for a somewhat large fee and so far we've replaced his quality up top with Solomon and what looks to be Brennan Johnson. How can anyone actually be happy with that? What's the point of Levy haggling with Bayern for ages so that we could get the best deal possible to then not buy a high quality forward? That's my issue.
