Positive start from him. Just needs to gain confidence and add more goals now.

He is getting in the right positions and really causes opposition problems when we play at a high tempo.

Not that I’ve seen to be honest.

He was great against Newcastle, his best performance in a spurs shirt in my opinion and all I saw was positives in here.

I also saw people acknowledge that he was better playing off the right (something I agree with).

He struggled today and as this is a forum it’s not unusual for people to air their opinions. If people can’t wait to jump on his back that’s their problem, but some of the over egging of his display today is pure revisionism. I’m sure he’d be the first to admit it wasn’t his best display (assist for Richy aside)

Look at the big picture.

Could of had more assists against Chelsea and Arsenal.

Was great against Newcastle (hit woodwork twice), great assist against Palace, scored against Wolves.....another assist today and rebound from his saved effort for our second.

He's heavily involved.

Clearly talented but reminds me a little bit of Sessegnon. Not a huge presence on the pitch and, as someone said above, quite timid. That header at the back post was a real chance but he was far too passive, and pulled out of a bunch of tackles throughout.

Still far too early to really judge and I think he's technically got real quality but I'm hoping Ange toughens him up a bit.

I’m not hating on the kid at all and can see how much he’s involved, I just merely pointed out that the assist today doesn’t mean he played well.

He needs to be braver though and go at his fullback more often. The defenders and midfield players are tasked with taking risks and playing out, he should be comfortable taking on his opposing defender more often

This is the Deki goal against City - but watch Johnson put on a burst of speed to get past Walker, to get the cross in.

He is brave, and attack-minded.

People are moaning about him every fucking week.

He's producing end product nearly every game.

First season, peoples expectatios are stupid.
He has 12 apps with 1 goal and 3 assists.

Which is a goal involvement every 3 games.

I dont think he's been that bad though.

I know, but when you consider Son's offside against Chelsea...

The goal he scored against SU....and hitting wood work couple of times against Newcastle...

....it really could of been a lot more

As I say, I think he's doing well but with his skillset, he should be looking to make more of an impact throughout the 90 minutes.
That's not meant to be criticising the lad because he's young and new to the team, he just doesn't quite have the impact over the full 90 yet.
He kinda flits in and out of the game.

He'll only get better because the early signs are good, very good and he's got the potential to be a proper game changer. Hopefully we'll see that as his confidence grows and he settles in to the team.

I just think there's a bit of hyperbole in here at times. I see it a fair bit when anyone says anything slightly negative or critical of a player or the team in general. It just gets blown out of proportion and made out like people are having a go and more angry than I'm sure they are. There's nothing wrong with highlighting weaknesses of a player and wanting more from them. Even if they're young players with potential. You can be happy with a player and appreciate their potential and still point out weaknesses. I don't see the big deal.

Yeah, there's a big difference between some of the recent posts and some earlier in the thread that were literally saying he wasn't good enough.
I don't think anyone is saying that he was bad today, just that he could be doing more to affect the game, which I think is fair and I'm sure he will as he progresses.

It's a bit like in the match thread when people were rightfully saying that we'd turned sloppy and needed to buck our ideas up, the next minute, people were complaining about how some can't even be happy at 2 nil up.
There's a big difference between observation and moaning but some just like to jump on the bandwagon that everyone's having a go.

I think the contrast that comes with confidence will result in us seeing a different player.

The finish from Richarlison epitomised that today, relaxed, finessed.

In contrast, Johnson is trying to blast every effort, a goal or two will change that dramatically.

I believe we have a great talent on the books that we just need to give some time to settle and he will flourish.

Yeah, he just needs to settle in a bit.
It was a big move for the lad and he's understandably eager to make an impact, so that's probably making him a bit nervous and snatch at chances.
At 22, he's only going to get better.

I would say it was a bigger move for Udogie, Sarr (both younger) and Van de Ven (same age), as Johnson already had a full premier league season behind him, playing in every one of Forest's games in 22-23. He's playing well in bursts but the other three I mentioned are bossing entire games most of the time. I'm also convinced he's going to get better though but he shouldn't leave it too long.

First 20 mins was very good, and there were a few times when the ball should have gone to him and didn’t.

should have scored from Emerson’s cross and remembering his loan at Lincoln he does have the ability to score more, so would be good to see him be a touch more clinical there.

second half anonymous and I think if we had more subs a available he should have come off. But he’s still young and has shown enough to put further time and investment in. Also played with a massive bandage on his head

Yes, potentially a good player, successful in flashes.

He's definitely pulling out of tackles though as has been pointed out here. So, bravery in that sense is something that needs work.

Out of those games he has been a sub in 4, injured and taken off early against Arsenal and Forest and subbed half an hour in against Chelsea after Romero's red card.

Which means his goal involvement record per 90 minutes is actually better than 1 every 2 games.

He's been way more impressive than Sessegnon imo

Yes he could take his man on, be more involved defensively, score more goals etc etc but he is getting used to a system very different to what he has ever been involved in.

His pace is such an asset he just needs to know when to use it as no player is going to keep up with him, it is frightening.

He set up richys goal and his shot resulted in Sons goal. I want him to be up and down and I am sure that will be what Ange wants but he is doing fine.

I’m not that impressed if I’m honest, and I wasn’t that positive about signing him. But he’s wracking up a few assists, which is not to be sniffed at.

It’s a reasonable start all things considered, and has plenty of time (it’ll be a season or more before we can really take a view) but would hope for steady improvement as times go by.
