Admittedly this is a stupid point, but if we had bought him for 25m then I'd be fine. It's just 40m seems quite expensive right now.

I also think him and Son are too similar and having both in the team is asking the rest of our already knackered and depleted players to work harder. Of course, we have no choice right now but to have both I feel we need a fully firing midfield.
Same thing was said about Son in 2015 for 22m. Give him some time, he will develop.

He has clearly been the weak link in our play and shouldn't be struggling given this isn't his first season in the prem. That being said, I am still optimistic that this is just a bad streak. Do I think he is a 47m player? Probably not. It often looks like he is a second too late on crosses or ideas. I think if there is no improvement by the end of the season, then we can be having a different conversation.

Let us not forget, with a fully fit team, he most likely isn't the winger. Because of that, we shouldn't be as harsh.

The lad can clearly cross a ball very well. But everything else about his game is half-hearted and he's not physically strong enough yet. He is only young and i think there is plenty of time and space for him to develop. But he is not deserving or ready for the minutes he is getting atm. i'm surprised those minutes haven't been shared amongst other young players

It's not like we have many other options today with Kulusevski banned today and Solomon/Perisic injured.

The thing is even with Kunu available I would stil play Johson on the right, as he is able to put crosses in for Richi which Kulu does not as always cuts inside, also stretches a defence. Personal choice on my part

Is he our only wide player that goes on the outside, and not cut in?
Son does both, Gil doesn't seem to have the drive on the outside so seems better on the right, I think Soloman can go outside too, Kulusevski does at times and scored a good goal on his left foot so would like to see more. In terms of pace though maybe Soloman is the closest to Johnson.

I think he gets a bum deal on here, most matches he puts some good crosses in. Lacks a bit of confidence which will come and seen enough to think he will grow with that.

Needs to trust his body a bit more.

He's a big lad and needs to use it.

That said, I was thinking he was looking just a little podgy today, still potentially not as fit as he could be.

It's a big change coming straight from your boyhood club to a top Premiership Side. He'll come good.

Gil wouldn't do half of what Johnson is doing. Who would do a better job?

Right now he is playing within himself. Similar to when I’ve watched Sess. Got that Deer in headlights look. Probably for similar reasons… injury concerns. Got to overcome that fear and play with some grit and ferocity. If he can tap into that mental state, he could be excellent. But if he doesn’t, he wont rise above being a decent option.

Just like Sess it is all in the head. Hopefully the coaches know this and are helping him find a way over or through this psychological hurdle.

In 38 PL appearances for us, Sess has 2 goals and 2 assists. I agree that BJ looks slightly reticent on and off the ball, but he is still doing plenty of good. Not sure who's cereal he pissed in ITT.

Another iffy game, another assist. Continuing to show great pace, smart movement, and a fantastic range of accurate crosses.
Most likely I am wrong but I had the impression he has an excellent initial burst of pace but doesn't maintain it for very long.

I think this is right. There’s a strange series of contradictions about his game.

He’s quick as hell, but doesn’t go for the jugular often enough when one on one.

His decision making when finishing has been anywhere from composed to petrified.

His final ball has, at times, been sensational, and at others…well, weak.

As regards his talent and pace, I think the raw ingredients are there. But both him and Son have a habit of going missing for extended periods of the game. It’s not ideal when you need to hold onto the ball.

I think there’s a good player in there somewhere, and in a universe where we don’t have so many injuries, he’s probably being eased into the side from the bench with a series of eye catching cameos. That was probably the intention when we bought him, up to a point.

In the meantime, assists and the ability to stretch a defence are bloody useful - it would just be great to see him threatening more often by himself like other players with similar price tags ie Doku, Gordon…even Elanga.

Fingers crossed he settles and starts to find a more confident rhythm. We’re all rooting for him and If he does, he’ll be a great asset. In the meantime, availability means he’ll get plenty of chances. Good luck to him. We’ll need him more than ever in Jan.

Johnson has never played in a progressive team before , whether it was Forest or Wales.
So, he still needs time to adjust his game to what our system needs.
Mentally as well, he has got to be instinctive & not think too much. Most of his assist have come when he has done it instinctive

Honestly some of you guys post a lot of shit.

Lad has come in and due to injuries been thrust in. He contributes decisively in pretty much every match at the moment and puts in a shift. Then you come on here and read stuff like “there is a good player in there somewhere” like he isn’t contributing more than Saka every week.
