I'm usually fairly positive about these things, but I'm starting to get the sense this one won't happen to be honest. Atalanta seem to be making things very difficult, and I'm not as convinced as most on here that they truly need to sell in the way many are thinking.

Even if it doesn’t happen Paratici is know for having multiple deals on the go at once so we will definitely have someone else as a backup and judging by the price tag we’d be willing to spend on Romero what other centre backs at around the €50m mark do you reckon we are in for.

I'm assuming Atalanta can only sign Romero for the £13m if he agrees to it. Surely he can just tell them he won't unless they agree to sell him to us, leaving them with no real negotiating power - they agree a fee with us now or we negotiate with Juve in 2022.

I don’t understand Atalanta’s thinking here but I think we are getting pretty close to Paratici deciding to move on.

We cannot afford to be playing poker with these guys right through August.
We have a v.difficult early run of fixtures, he would be aware of that and wouldn’t be surprised if Nuno had emphasised it too.
We need defenders (ideally more than just this guy too) in and training with the others.

I dread to think how our start to the season will go against those top sides with a Doherty, Dier, Sanchez, Reguilon as a back 4. It won’t be pretty.

I think this is pretty much what’s going on. Atalanta aren’t going to give up £40 odd mill - we’ll close this and I’d wager by Tuesday at the latest it’ll be done, even if he hasn’t been formally announced.
