It could be that we're potentially after the player they want as replacement as well, if it's Botman.
At this rate I'd love to get Romero tied up, and then sneak in and pinch Botman from under their noses just to spite them.

Way to escalate something that didn't need escalating. We're allowed to debate! I don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility that Atalanta are less stressed about finding a replacement for Romero now they've signed Lovato (who is a similar age to what Romero was when they signed him).

Atalanta's operating model is to buy low sell high- so Lovato is still a pretty big outlay for them, especially in a pandemic.
Wasn’t trying to escalate things at all, don’t be bloody dramatic.
I’m aware that’s how these clubs work, but they are still in the CL, so it’s not a particularly bold assumption they may want a higher level player to replace him. Pandemic, yes, but they’re about to stumble into 40 mil from effectively a year long loan, so they aren’t paupers.

Spite. Love it. When all else fails, let’s go for spite.

I think we should ONLY be targeting players who others teams want (but that we barely need) purely for comedy purposes.

Interesting to know whether you take every post you read on this site so seriously. If so you must have a very tough time.

The start of your post was uneccessarily patronising imo, also a bit dramatic. Anyways I'll leave it there. I don't want to argue. Apologies if I took it the wrong way.

You may be right, and in my post above I said they may want another CB on top of Lovato as they play a back three, but it may be that they're less stressed at bringing one in, given Lovato is pretty highly rated (he's in their top 10 highest transfer fees).

If Atalanta has agreed a fee to sell Romero to us but want to wait until they get a replacement first, then I hope Paratici tells them that the fee drops by £1m a day until the contract has been signed.

Are Atalanta stringing us along because they know we want a second CB and we'll immediately be in competition with them for another CB once we wrap this deal up?

Swedish journalist Daniel Kristoffersson (he’s very reliable, if he’s saying something it’s true) says that Atalanta’s sporting director will go to Sweden this coming week to conclude a deal for swedish/bosnia central defender Anel Ahmedhodzic.

Atalanta has followed him for some time, and the talk has been around €10m earlier.
Don’t know if it impacts our deal at all, they will probably want someone more experienced as well. But another CD nonetheless.
