People call him stupid but when those tackles come off they set us instantly on the attack. He won one second half then sprinted up the pitch like a forward which lead to our best chance of a 2nd when Kane just missed the ball across goal.

There are always side effects to crunching fouls like he made. It gets the crowd fired up, it made Haaland tentative for the rest of the game and it inspired his team mates to get stuck in.

Never change Christian.

I have seen it mentioned elsewhere but not here - everyone is saying he was 'letting Haaland know he was there' for the first yellow, but it seems pretty clear that he was taking a calculated risk to charge in for the ball as Ederson was out of position. If he succeeded he would have had a goal scoring opportunity. With the pace of the game it looks like a reducer but he only missed the tackle by a split second. So it doesn't have to necessarily have anything to do with targeting Haaland, in fact I think it's exactly that he saw an opportunity and decided it was worth the risk
I said the same maybe 5 posts above you

As if people call him stupid because he's aggressive in the tackle. Maybe he's not the stupid one.

Absolutely loved his foul on Haaland. I love his aggression and no-fucks attitude. I'll happily take a few reds over the course of the season to have that level of physical combativeness. I'm sure he'll learn when to use it more suitably as he matures, but right now, I wouldn't change a thing. Some of our other defenders could learn a thing from him; they're all far too timid.

I think it's a combo of both. He was hoping to nick the ball high up the pitch for sure. At the same time, he's definitely one to go for a challenge to win the ball whilst also clattering his man and potentially still giving away the foul for being wreckless/"out of control" even though he wins the ball.

Either way i didnt have a problem with it. Yes it's a risk, but it's the type of thing that players react to, that the fans react to and sets a tone for the way we want to play. When players are just sat in and making weak tackles or standing off, the crowd goes quiet, the team loses intensity.

If it wasnt for the hospital pass from i think Davies that left Romero having to take one for the team late on he would never have got the second.

Maybe they aren't as good as he or have the right mentality yet.
Hopefully they will learn and Cristian will learn to be a bit more (sneaky) careful and not get cards

You might be right in this instance but unfortunately Romero is a red card waiting to happen. He doesn't, it seems to me, have the brain to keep away from these situations particularly when he is already on a yellow for something similar.
And yet he only got one direct red card in his career. For DOGSO.

I reckon too much is being made of it being at attempt to keep Haaland quiet, I reckon he just saw the opportunity for an attack. Reminded me of the massive tackle he made against Leicester (I think) that led to Son scoring.

I get definite Sandro vibes with Romero. Loves a tackle and the vast majority of the time they're spot on but leave an impression. I just hope he can stay injury free unlike Sandro.

Why is picking up a yellow card seen as a dirty thing? Sometimes it’s preferable to the alternative, such as a confident Haaland or the fat legged Judas running at your defence in the final minutes.

I agree 100%. It's no surprise that Sandro was my favourite player of that era aside from Bale. He put in some truly world-class DM performances for us. He could have been one of the true greats if he could have stayed fit.
