There were huge debates on here with many many posters saying that "no one is going to come and sit on the bench" and "we only have 1 game a week" and other such guff, as reasons not to buy more than one CB last summer.

Consequently, our chicken have come home to roost.
We need another two in the style of Ben Davies for the longer term. One to cover LB & LCB and one to cover RB & RCB (could be Emerson).

Emerson is a good shout.
I was very impressed about a year ago when he put money into improving himself.
He comes across as someone who takes his career seriously and never appears to act up if not playing.

The stat for this season isn't true (haven't looked into the others), he has missed 27.7% not 40.8% (played 1172 out of a possible 1620).
Wonder if they’ve counted the games he’s likely to miss with the injury?

Ridiculous if they have since a) he hasn't missed them yet and b) we don't know exactly how many he will miss as we don't know the exact game he will be back.

I’m just speculating, can’t see any reason to get it so wrong otherwise.

Just checked and yep it’s assuming that he misses all games until the end of Jan, which is not unreasonable given what we’ve been told (and by which time he will have actually missed 47% of games in all comps).

It’s pretty terrible for a position you need reliability more than anything else.

He was really missed yesterday. Becomes bro popular online to disparage him but he's the best defender we have and it's not even close

He gives us so much including releasing Porro that bit more. When he has Royal next to him he's not as attacking and we saw that last night.

He’d have got a red for Dunks challenge no deliberation.

He’s now being ref’d on reputation.

Nobody to blame but himself though. Needs to rein it in a bit and make his challenges without trying to leave a bit on the opponent. He was doing exactly that very well prior to the Chelsea game, but now the Refs are on it and he has to adapt.

This whole "everyone's got it in for Romero" narrative is ridiculous. He's got away with a lot that he could have walked for. The difference between Romero and others is he actually seems to enjoy inflicting pain, and when you get that reputation he probably should be judged differently.

Admittedly, this is going full tinfoil hat… but ever since the Liverpool game, it feels like refs have been very lenient on teams that come out and knock the living shit out of our players during the first 30 mins. Rarely do you see them call fouls and are even more reluctant to dish out yellows. Conversely, our boys seem to get carded for farting in the general direction of the officiating staff.

Yeah, I know it’s all in my head. But, things have changed a lot in terms of how teams are now playing against us since Pool. In most matches now they seem to go in hard and with malice during the first third of the game, as if they feel there is a pattern of refs turning a blind eye during this period of the match.
