We've been pretty good at saying to returning players that they'll play 60 mins, a bit like Bentancur did recently. Wouldn't be surprised if we do the same, start Romero and sub him off at 60 to introduce Radu, regardless of how the game is going.

What about VdV though? Surely he has to come off too. My concern is VdV and Romero are both back from injury. We've just got a new fully fit centre back. Not much sense playing 2 not fully fit centre backs when you can play 1 fully fit one with 1 less fit one. Dragusin is the only of the 3 who can play 90mins I would imagine.

Starting a newly signed centre back away at Old Trafford is a huge risk. Yes Man U might not be the force they were but it is still going to be daunting to throw a 21 year old in at the deep end like that. Personally I would start Romero/VDV. And bring on Radu on late on in the match.

I get that but if they’ve been in full training this week we have to assume they are ready to play. As I said, we can always bring Radu on late on if we’re concerned with fatigue etc…

Not true. They can be cleared for the squad but not fit to start. It depends how much time they feel they can play. If they feel they have 60 mins they can start but they may be only fit to come on for 30 mins. It depends on their fitness levels after a layoff. Although Romero may be in better shape given his length out compared to VdV. So we'll see but absolutely would be happy to see VdV and Romero start Sunday. It's just we have a quality fully fit center back available too now.

On a more serious note - I am old enough to remember when people thought Cuti only rushed back from injuries to play for Argentina....
