Lo celso + Ndombele = Eriksen and Dembele. We want to win the league which we couldn't do with those two. Thus we need to add to the squad to improve it. Thus we need at least one other midfielder into the team, whether that be a DM, CM or winger. If Eriksen stays then we still need to add to the team as Ndombele isn't going to be enough by himself (see lo Celso). That's where we're at imo. There are a lot of holes quality wise in our squad at the moment, we need to make up 30 points on the top two.
Really fair comment. However there were a lot of challenges last season which impacted badly on last season. Least of all the stadium delays and a raft of players reaching the latter stages of the the summer tournament. Son’s national service hanging over his head. Dele and CE not really making it happen. These all contributed to us losing ground to Man City and Liverpool from Jan 19. But no question there are holes. NDombele and GLC will be significant strengths for us going forward, and very much needed, even before any thoughts of CE leaving.

so if Eriksen stays and we sign GLC what do we do if both were injured for a stretch?
That's just dumb, sorry. I'm sick of answering arguments like this. What are the chances of 2 players in the same position getting injured compared to one? Is it really unreasonable to suggest that we might need two playmakers in a squad? There's only so many injuries you can legislate for, correct. But it would be complete negligence to leave us short when having 2 players for that role is a perfectly workable and reasonable solution. We're playing in 4 competitions looking to win them all.

Yeah! Let's play devil's advocate and argue that we shouldn't be wanting more than one creative midfielder in our squad by illustrating that we'd be up shit creek if they both got injured! Don't let's entertain the idea of actually strengthening, because it could still all go wrong!

so you chose to ignore most our midfield was either injured or not fully fit last years, or playing with niggles

But he also thinks we need a really good third GK in case the first 2 get hurt. Shrugs

Forgive me if I'm getting you wrong, but you posed a What If question pondering what would happen if we did have two creative midfielders in the squad and they both got injured, in response to a post from @WiganSpur which suggested we needed a second creative midfielder because it would be risky to have only one in the squad as it would only take one injury to leave us with nobody to play that role. It seemed like your implied argument was, "what benefit would signing a second creative midfielder bring, because both could go down injured at once", which is an argument that I don't have any time for.

If you meant something completely different then it didn't come across in your post, and I'd welcome the chance to hear what you actually meant instead.

and I was responding to @WiganSpur saying we lack depth, and because he used the IF injured for a spell. we will have plenty of depth in midfield, even Winks in the past has operated in the 10 role, though might of been for U23's. I'm just pointing out you can only have so much depth, and if everyone is expecting us to have 2 top class players per position, they are in for a shock

Cool, thanks for confirming, you were essentially making the point I thought you were. And this is where we disagree, because I won't be happy with Ndombele + existing midfield (or signing GLC and losing Eriksen), whereas you can live with that. Your view might be the more realistic one in terms of what actually happens - in fact, I think it probably is - but I want us to be more ambitious than that and I won't be happy if we're not.

Personally think this ones about money, I hate putting figures on players but if hes in the same ball park as TNd 50-60 I think we will do a deal even if Eriksen stays, but E80M is prob not what were going to pay. Personally i really think we should get this guy because I don't really trust Eriksens commitment and we need to give him some competition and he will bring some steeliness along with creativity.

I think because he has that gritty play and he is such a creative player, you rarely see those to traits together he would add a lot more to our midfield.

NDombele to me looks more dynamic than Dembele ever did and I was a fan of Dembele.
The key is his opening up the game for us
If he comes and Eriksen goes we will need some creativity at a. m but if NDombele can pass incisive passes for players to run on to it will change fundamentally our game.
I'm talking about passes to open defences not the more simple ones of Dembele.

that real ambition won't happen till we have settled in the new stadium, got a nice namings right deal. don't get me wrong we will get stronger, just replacing last seasons Dembele and not have 12 players involved towards the end of a summer tournament, will make us stronger, providing we don't suffer a massive injury list like last season.

if you are wanting a squad that can fully compete on all 4 fronts this season, then I'd lower your expectations. we are still not big enough to have a squad of 25 players + youth to battle Man C

Are we actually still interested in this player? I don't see many reports about him and us? Are we waiting to sign Ndombele and then we will direct our attention his way?

He's in Semi finals of Copa America which is 1.30 A.M on Wednesday, if they go out then we should see some information.
