Also, isn't it up to the player? We can offer what we can offer, including Foyth, Gazza, Lamela, Poch, PLUS Ossie and Ricky.

Who can United offer?

The player’s agent can have a huge influence on his next club as the agent will be looking for a huge fee to be paid by the buying club.

Man Utd have paid huge fees to Mino Raiola to land Lukaku, Pogba and Alexis Sanchez.

That has served them well. :sneaky:

All of this because one random newspaper mentions United as supposedly 'willing' to pay the supposed magic figure and people as usual go over board.

Wouldn't mind but we supposedly had a bid rejected yet we're still doing it wrong and United are doing it right.

Fucking hell.

Man Utd are linked with every player on the planet because it makes the media money.

If I was an agent I think I'd see a move to Spurs (or similar) as a great option because there's another step on the ladder afterwards.

The transfer and rumours of some top stars moving around top clubs (Ronaldo, Neymar, etc.) shows there’s always another move

There may be another step on said ladder, but there’s also a bald headed troll tying your feet to said ladder unless you provide him with a bucket full of gold :troll:

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against getting the maximum for our players that leave, but the tough negotiating stance by DL could put you off coming in the first place :)

If we don't agree a fee with Betis, which in this hypothetical scenario will entail matching whatever lucrative package Utd put on the table, then there will be no question of 'forcing a sale to us'. It will be a choice between Betis and Utd, which is a pretty easy choice to make.
No, that’s exactly my point...we don’t necessarily have to match their offer. This is not an auction. The player’s preference is important as well. No Betis don’t have to sell to us but they don’t have to sell to United either. If they’ve decided to sell him, they will have to sell to someone he wants to play for and that could be us or United or someone else. Think of it the other way around....let’s say we were the high bid and United bid a million less. He wouldn’t necessarily have to got to us....he might prefer United and would force Betis to either get nothing and have an unhappy player or take United’s bid which wasn’t the highest.

not true, and some still don't seem to understand this, just like Eriksen and Toby comments. every player in the world has a decision to make when their club accept an offer. if Betis accept 75m off of Utd, but Celso doesn't want to join Utd, he doesn't have to move. if Celso tells Betis he wants to come to Spurs and Spurs only, then Betis have to decide on whether to keep a player that wants to move, or accept a lower offer.

not every player in this world goes to a club offering the bigger wage. they go to the club they have their heart set on sometimes. if media reports are true Man U have offered a better package to Sessengnon but he wants to come to us, just like a certain Gareth Bale did all those years ago, and Paul Gascoigne

the only power any team has is refusing to sell a player, and hope the player is professional afterwards, just like when we refused to sell Modric to Chelsea.

You're missing my point. I did say whether they are successful or not is irrelevant.

What we do know is that they are trying to change their structure. Obviously to do this they must realise they have a problem with recruitment and they are taking responsibility for it.

I believe we have a problem too, but as of yet there has been no concrete evidence of anything being done about it, whether it's news of a change in structure or top signings officially secured that indicate a change in approach behind the scenes.

so if because Man U are being named with every single player, it's because they are trying to change their structure

yet we have been linked with Celso, Ndombele, and Sessengnon what is the difference other than your belief it's only media talk and not true in your eyes?

Of course he doesn’t have to move if a bid is accepted, i have played Football Manager before. But the fact is that a player at Betis is hardly going to turn down a move to pretty much the biggest club in the world in the hope that maybe Spurs will come in for him later. We’ve been here often enough before to know what it is that motivates players, and Champions League football has very little to do with it.

read my post again please it has proof of 2 definitely chose us over Utd, and another that wants us over Utd. no one knows what the player wants at the moment. he might see Utd playing in the Europa and at the moment in turmoil losing Pogba and Lukaku, and think he fancies playing CL, with an Argentine manager that already has 2 players from his nation

Gazza is completely irrelevant as an example, considering it happened 30 years ago and the man himself admitted he made a mistake. Lo Chelso may prefer us but you’re madder than Gazza if you think he’s going to turn down Utd and risk being stuck at Betis because he wants to play for Poch.

I admire your optimism, but it is sadly misplaced.

if his agent tells Betis his man wants Spurs, then it's then up to Betis to either agree the offer on the table, or be stuck with a player that doesn't want to be there. your forgetting Bale in that, at a time when Man U had Fergie, stability and winning the league

Except for all those times that isn’t the case. Lots of players have turned down United and many more will in the future. Honestly, they are not in a good way right now and I would kind of question the judgment of any player and/or his advisors if he chose United over Spurs at this moment if the offers are even remotely close.

Utd are still one of the biggest if not the biggest team in the world, they’re going through a poor patch currently but we’ve nowhere near the prestige they have. I believe players would see more chance of Utd coming back to prominence more than they would see us kicking on, unfortunately

I agree with you in general but with young Argentine players I think they’d mostly pick us as long as Poch is around.
