I know both signed after the world cup exits and had some time off, and really thought Shaqiri was lastminutedotcom

My point was ultimately they got who they wanted regardless of the situation although they did use the Coutinho money so we are in a similar boat - I get that and totally forgot that point.

We are just pretty close and our stock really could not be higher apart from winning the PL/CL

even if we got our targets and a bonus, I don't expect the title. these players have to bed in and get used to the Premier League, and neither the French or Spanish play at such a high tempo. I mean top teams in La Liga play their 2nd teams with 1 or 2 players v the bottom teams. very rarely do bottom 5 or 6 teams nick results v the top 4 of both leagues (I said rarely, not ever to all those stat kings)

edit: apologies I should of said top 4 of Spanish which is usually the 2 Madrids and Barca plus 1 of a particular season. in France it's usually PSG and a complete mixture no regular top 3 or 4

Oh definitely and do agree. In all honesty even if we got GLC for example a month ago he still wouldnt be training with us till later this week.. I think GLC will happen and thats about it. Which in all honesty barring a RB and possibly a back up to Kane id be happy with the squad.

I didnt think of that hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

YOURE FUCKING UP MY CHI

well carry on CI'ing till GLC mentions he would love to play for them. if he has his heart set on us then Betis might not sell him, and haven't they already signed a few players and by sounds of it need to sell to balance the books

Funny thing is, as soon as there’s a little bit of bad news or information you get more weirdos coming out with “oh here we go, toys out of the pram from you lot YET AGAIN” than people actually throwing their toys out of the pram...

Why do we only end up seemingly with just the one target at any one time for one position? Everyone else manages to actually get names floated to keep the process on the level. We always end up locking in and then show fuck all flexibility when in negotiations.

This window is frustrating as fuck.

I really hope you get better soon, because last season I'm sure you was mr defender:whistle: it's Poch that only has a plan A, doesn't want plan b's as when they go wrong they are harder to shift and become deadwood

This might be a load of bollocks or a coincidence but isn't there a testicular cancer thing going on at the moment with an 8 ball as it's logo ? Saw it yesterday on FB

Edit It is prostrate cancer awareness- Apologies
It’s prostate cancer (no “r”). But to be fair I’ve had prostate cancer and the treatment does leave you feeling prostrated for quite a while.

Tell us about it mate! There's a fair few of us that have been trying to offset this behaviour for years and we've all been battered by it at one stage or another. It's not quite as bad as it used to be. ?

Apologies. I did a quick spell check but it threw up the alternative word and foolishly I went with it not realising my stupid mistake. That's what I get for being too clever.

It’s not as bad because disappointment is the norm these days so when transfers go tits up it’s no longer a shock... when a transfer comes then that’s a shock lol

As others have said and I have previously said too, currently were are at a slight loss compared to this time last year, with Dembele being replaced, but with a couple of additional loses that don't worsen the first team as such but badly impact the squad. With that being said, Dembele was essentially non-existant last year and we were unlucky with injuries in the second half of the year beyond what would be considered reasonable, so that might be a glimmer of light going forward if luck favours us this season. However, with Trippier going we need to replace him, if we replace him with Foyth then ok, I will get behind that, but then we need another defender if that's Foyth's full-time position for the foreseeable, certainly with doubts over Toby's long-term future. Replace him with Dier? Then we need another defensive midfielder, more so with Wanyama being a shadow of his former self. Sell Rose? Well better get Sess in and hope he can at least do a job rotating with Davies pretty much straight off the bat. So in my mind, even keeping Toby, we need at least two players in - one if we keep Rose - somewhere across the back.

If we keep Eriksen then midfield is ok, though it would be aided by the addition of Lo Celso or similar if we really want to push on, and if Erisken goes then he simply has to be replaced, at least with Lo Celso, even if in the short term that would be a likely downgrade, but ideally with someone else on top as well. Up front, I'd say we are ok too, though we could do with someone to cover Llorente's departure. A big signing here like Dybala or Bale or whoever would be ideal, but the other positions are vastly more pivotal at the moment. I am still hopeful we will get somewhere close to this, but I did think we'd have had one or two more in the bag by this stage, however difficult transfers may well be to complete.

have you heard of that guy Danvison Sanchez

As it goes I have as luck would have it; however, I was comparing our whole squad, and on that basis, we would be weaker in defence than this time last year if one of our defenders switched position. It could be argued he could cover right back and centre back, but then that's again making the squad thinner.

Trouble is a certain Mr Levy continually skips rule No 1 in deal negotiations, ABC, ‘Always Be Closing’, he favours the brinksmanship approach that can bring big rewards, but more often falls flat on its face.

I don’t agree with you. Sorry.

well at the end of the day we can only use 25man squad, and I think if we sign Lo Celso we would then have 17 non HG when it comes to the CL. can't see us buying Maguire so Foyth can revert back as CB cover, and the only decent RB that would count as HG was AWB and he joined Man U.

If we assume as told so often that glc is not dependent on ce, and we buy him, then what do we do on transfer deadline day? Do we buy another player on the assumption that ce will be sold ( in which case we will be offered a smaller amount) , or do we do nothing but then face the prospect of losing ce to real after that date (as other windows close after) and then we have have merely replaced one player with another. Alternatively ce does not go to real but does not sign a new contract and we are down 70m. Why would real sign him before UK window closes when they can hang on and effectively have us in a bind.

And as I pointed out, if Foyth has to cover right back and CB then we would be weaker at the back on an overall squad level than we were last season. We could get lucky here and cope with it, and if we balance that by being much stronger in the middle then it might work out great for us and we can re-evaluate the backline next summer. However, that was the point of my original post, we haven't done either of those things yet, not fully. Time will tell and hopefully it will work out in the end.

We've all been here before so at this point i'm just going to assume that the squad will remain as is now with no new contracts. Best you can do is see the positives from what we have and anything else is a bonus. We have at least signed one quality midfield player, Trippier and Llorente have gone which means Pochettino can't pick them again. There's a positive to Rose remaining in that we all know he's experienced and can cope at this level. Skipp has seemingly kicked on and Parrott has looked superb which would hopefully mean the end of Llorente, Wanyama and the Dier midfield experiment.

Of course it's nowhere near good enough but no point getting worked up over it.

You guys should probably move then defender chat somewhere a bit more relevant. But, on the way, note that we still have 2 right backs and last year we were arguably over stacked there. We still have 8 defenders.

Trippier was a first-teamer though, and whatever people here thought of him, he had the potential to contribute and cover, hopefully we can manage with the players we currently have if we don't bring anyone else in. I will of course be cheering for them. And my original comment was spawned by the fact this thread was temporarily being used as a platform to discuss a piece of twitter information. But to bring it back on topic, yes the issue here could be greatly aided by the signing of Lo Celso, and the biggest first-team whole we had would most certainly be plugged.
