What Everton did was perfect for this approach because they was standing a couple yards in front of Vicario. Then the corner came in and they would then back into the keeper. With this approach Vicario would engage with the defender first by coming out and essentially marking him. Then push off and get back to his line. I guess the alternative is to have a defender on the player instead and get them to push off so the keeper just stays on his line. I think our main issue is the 6 yard area is pretty crowded and that's why Vicario stays on his line.Anyway that’s all that is meant by ‘standing firm’
