I would not have been too fussed if Son was offloaded prior to the start of this season. I look back now and am quite thankful he wasn't.

Has been awesome this season.

I really wanted him to be one of the cabbages during "that" summer, then he was, and after a season I really wanted to cash in on him. Still he can be both night and day within a week, or even within a game. But there is no doubt how fortunate it is that he still is with the club.

Really pleased he has settled and is producing for us regularly. Im so impressed with his work ethic and how much of a nuisance he is for opposition defences.

Everyone seems to want a fast pacey winger/attacker who scores goals when effectively we already have one.

(I agree we need more pace in attack though)

Bearing in mind that:
1) He's essentially an AM and has largely played there; and
2) He's supposedly a back up

...the fact that he's scored a goal every 141 minutes is sensational. Nothing short of. That's better than strikers of the class of:

Ibrahomivic
Costa
Benteke
Defoe

...and other AMs like:

Mane
Coutinho
Alli
Hazard

....the list goes on, but seriously, to think we were unsure if he'd actually be here this season? That he's outscored Costa and Zlatan (who was on the Player of the Year list FFS!) in particular I think is extraordinary.

But the pundits and media all said at the beginning of the season we would not be able to cope if Kane was injured

So did quite a few on this forum tbf.

Not forgetting those inpatient fans asking for Son to be sold at the end of last season...

He gives the whole team a dynamism which seems to be infectious. Yes, he can miss a chance or 3, but that never seems to affect his confidence.

His improvement this year is something I could only have wished for..he is an automatic 1st 11 pick at present..and long may that continue.

PS Lamela has his work cut out for next season to get back into the team..

I have always been a Son fan and didn't want him sold but there was plenty of merit in the criticism directed at him last season. I never understand why people use examples and ingnore the ones that didn't work out.

21 goals, 6 assists + he's drawn two crucial penalties (the 3-2 match winning goal against Hammers and the 1-0 match winning goal against Boro). That's bloody productive.

Which isn't the same as wanting him sold.

And there was merit in such suggestions as well. He wasn't performing to the level we wanted and the opportunity to recoup most of his fee was there.

Neither one can and should play all the games we will be playing next season so Id say it's rather a good thing we have the quality to rotate in that position.

It's fine to make judgements but what causes frustration is the finality of the comments that leave out the possibility of a player to improve with time and coaching.

Yes some players don't work out, but I really don't see the problem in giving a player time to improve. After all, our whole transfer strategy as a club is to buy young players with high potential, so we shouldn't always expect an immediate impact. I could understand if we were one of the elite clubs and were buying off the shelf world superstars, but that's clearly not the case.
