So I'm in Korea and right now there is super son time on which is regaling son's finest moments of the season so far (this is a long program)

Then a mate of mine says son should be in military service soon, and I'm like you what!?

He says it's obligatory and the only way you can get let off the hook is through the performance of the national team at the world cup.

Apparently the South Korean world cup and the London Olympics teams got exemptions because they exceeded expectations in those competitions. But if a team doesn't perform the general public heckle them to come back and serve and not get treated any differently.

I said son would be losing millions of pounds per year coming back to Korea voluntarily.

Wonder if the contract drawn up has any stipulations on this.

Maybe he would prefer to drop Korean citizenship if that asked him to come back to serve

This has already been discuss. And your mate is wrong since he was suppose to have military service since he was 18. But since he is employed overseas in a role that allows him to differ his enlistment, he is able to wait till he is in his 30s before he can choose to come back and serve.

Giving up his citizenship was never on the table, it's an honour to serve your country. And it isn't about the money. And I am sure, like every Korean. He wants to do his part of his country.

I am pretty sure, in the next few years if he continues at this level, he might even be given an exemption if he keeps breaking Asians records. But that's is another issue.

For the time being, as long as he is in our employment, he doesn't have to serve his nation. And don't worry too much about his service, I am 90% sure after his basic training is done, he will be playing football for the Korean military team. Most likely be a player/coach role... Earning peanuts, but like I said, it's not about the money.

The way things are going with North Korea at the moment - I'd imagine he's getting a tad nervous about the prospect of his military service.

Pretty impressive that he's the only player to win it twice this season.

I can't think of my other instances where a player who is arguably not in anyone's Spurs First XI has won player of the month twice in a season. Nice work Sonny. Also shows the need for patience as many would have been happy to see him sold after one season. Nice one Son.

His 2 goals tonight make it the first time in our history that we've had 3 players scoring over 20 goals a season. Pretty impressive
