Laurent Koscielny has heaped praise on Hugo Lloris for his leadership qualities within the France national team.

The Arsenal and Tottenham defenders go head to head in the Premier League for their north London clubs but have now joined up with their national squad ahead of their forthcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Lloris is Tottenham’s captain and has been one of the club’s top performers under Mauricio Pochettino in recent seasons.

And Arsenal defender Koscielny admits that he has been impressed by the goalkeeper’s leadership qualities within the France squad.

Speaking at a France news conference on Tuesday, Koscielny said of Lloris: “The armband goes very well with Hugo. His leadership, both on and off the pitch, is essential today.”

Tottenham's Hugo Lloris makes the dressing room fall silent when he speaks, says Antoine Griezmann

The France dressing room falls silent when captain Hugo Lloris addresses Didier Deschamps' team, according to Antoine Griezmann.

Lloris wears the armband for both Tottenham and his national side but has an unassuming presence away from the pitch.

The goalkeeper underpins Tottenham's defensive solidity and has been influential in helping Mauricio Pochettino transform Spurs into one of the Premier League's most compact units.

Affable and well spoken, the 29-year-old is held in high regard at White Hart Lane and does not appear to need to bellow out orders to get the attention of his countrymen.

“Hugo doesn’t speak that much, and keeps to himself more than Patrice Evra, but when he speaks, there’s a silence in the dressing room," Griezmann told L'Equipe.

Lloris was appointed Les Bleus captain in 2012 and is on course to become the most capped goalkeeper in his nation's history.

The Spurs stalwart has a total of 82 senior caps and is closing in on Fabian Barthez's record of 87 ahead of the upcoming World Cup 2018 qualifying fixtures against Bulgaria and the Netherlands.

We need to realise how fortunate we are to have this guy with us, and how grateful we must be to Poch for convincing him to stay when he had every right to say "fuck this shit" after the Sherwood debacle.

I still not a big fan of Hugo because of his shaky nervous face when doing mistakes, (same face as H.Gomes ) his hip hop long pants showing his butt cheeks too, and of course very most reason I not rated Hugo it was his distribution, still never improve as day one with us, I feel it every time when Hugo does have the ball with his feet and look like he will fuck it up, never trust his kicking. Of cause my prefer choice no.1 GK is Michel Vorm. I rated Vorm higher than Hugo and want him to spurs since his Swansea days I feel more relax with Vorm in the goal than Hugo especially with our system that really need GK that have good foots, steady and calm when opponent make high pressing, hugo can't handle it like Vorm does. All SC just do the rating or Meme like all of you want I always have a big different view on here and a frankly one too. Ian Walker is my Idol too I rate Ian higher than Lloris any days.

I think last season made people forget about Lloris's previous 3 seasons with us, where he saved us from embarrassment on so many occasions.

You mean Ian "what near post?" Walker? Better than Hugo "soon to be record capped, current French captain, recent European Cup finalist" Lloris?

Righto

I wonder who those people are? If it's indeed the case it's certainly a tiny percentage of Spurs fans who's not remembering what he's done for Spurs the 3 previous season as well.

Tbh Hugo's thread should not be a debate.

Anyone who doesn't worship the grass he walks on should be auto banned. I honestly can't think if a keeper I'd rather have between the sticks.

A lot of love for that man. Still need to pinch myself every now and then as I can't believe he's with us on this remarkable journey. Not only with us, but leading us on the field every week.

You mean Ian "I've just made another mistake and I'm going to laugh about it cos I'm shagging a model" Walker?

You're entitled to your opinion, but if you really think Walker was better than Lloris then you must have been doing a hell of a lot of drugs during the 90's.
