This is not just aimed at you, but I am finding quite amusing that everyone is so certain our keeper signing is such amazing business when I’d wager 95% of people on SC had never heard of him, let alone seen him play.

He might end up a great bit of business or he might be shit. Let’s wait and see.
To be fair, some people are capable of going out and finding information on a player they don't know anything about.
Like checking the opinions of fans and fellow pros, watching highlights or even full games.

I hadn't heard of the bloke but everything I've seen and read seems to suggest that he's a very good keeper.

There's nothing wrong with getting excited about a player you hadn't previously heard of, we're not all footie encyclopedias.
It's part of the fun of being a fan.

Most exciting signing we’ve made in ages

I wonder if he’ll play more as a CAM, or a LFW?

I strongly suspect the former, with Bentancur and Bissouma holding (that’s a hell of a trio), but I also think if we need to be more compact, he could further forward too

This is ace

Is this Darren lad someone we need to be paying attention to under the new regime?
I've never heard of him before but today, he's seemingly clued in a bit?!
Yes seems to have genuine info. Him and Paul O'Keefe seem to be singing from the same hymn sheet.

You’re quite right, there’s nothing at all wrong with doing a bit of research and getting excited about a player you didn’t know about.

It’s more the certainty of it that’s got me. He’s half what Brentford wanted for Raya, therefore he must be a far better signing. Not necessarily so ( although I do think Brentford will struggle to get that for him).

I’d have thought Son would play left, Kulu right and then he’d sit behind the striker.

I know they do. That still doesn’t mean we can’t rotate. 2 or 3 changes to the starting line up every game and full use made of the 5 substitutions allowed starting at the hour mark and everyone should get plenty of game time. It’s idiotic to have a 25 man squad(22 outfielders) with 5 substitutes allowed every game and not make full use of all the squad.

I don't disagree. Point is, european football means more matches, and more opportunities to rotate and keep a large quality squad happy.

In all my time supporting spurs the only manager who came close to rotating fairly regularly was Poch with the full backs. Most managers just prefer to have a settled first 11.

Champions league football allows you to keep a quality squad happy as they are high level matches so players are fine to be rotated in and out of the team for that and the prem. The perception of most other opportunities in domestic cups are seen as a step down. In fact, whenever we've rotated players for cup matches and ultimately gone out of that cup, we get a lot of whining about how we 'should have played our strongest 11' and not doing that shows that 'we don't take cups seriously'. Rotation is just not an easy skill to manage unless you have 22 players of equally talented players like Man City.

Him and Kulu could roam around. Alternatively we could do a 4-2-2-2 with Son next to Kane. Or a 4-3-3 with Mads advanced in the middle. So exciting.

There is much to love about this signing.
  • It will leverage the strengths of other players. He's a missing piece who will draw attention of the defenders who are responsible for covering other players. That creates that fraction of a second and a fraction of a yard.
  • Free kicks - Nothing more needs to be said other than we will finally threaten
  • Long range shots while having the ability to thread the needle on a pass. This in turn will give our forwards more opportunities. And while Kane is the obvious beneficiary (their link up play will be fun to watch), Richarlson is the one who might also benefit massively. His work rate and willingness to get into tight spots in anticipation where the ball will end up might mean some garbage goals for him as well as a thru ball.
  • Locker room presence - That confidence combined with Ange keeping him from getting cocky could be a massive boost in the locker room. my gut says that he will be another cog (along with Ange) who helps Sonny regain form.
One of my favorite signings in the last decade because he will help in so many facets of our performances.

He’s also another player that has worked his way up through the system. I wonder if that’s why Ange was really on board with this signing? Tapsoba is the same.

Saw a video earlier, he scored the goal for Coventry years ago that kept them up in League One. Then he's gone from strength to strength, Norwich in the Championship, Leicester in the PL. Next step for him.

I’ve been wondering this as well. Same thing with Vicario. It’s an immediate way for any new arrivals to relate to the manager. I can’t imagine it’s a pre-requisite but if it’s a consideration it’s definitely a smart one.
