I don't see how you can say that without knowing what other offers come in or what his thought process is in looking for his next move
Because to be blunt, I know things that you don't. When I say I've seen him play a few times it's not because I've paid to go to Ashton gate. In fact I can't remember the last time I paid to watch a football league side. I'm not trying to be patronising here, we've been discussing Scott behind the scenes for well over 18 months.

Very curious to see where he goes. I guess i can see the risk in going from someone like Maddison to Scott but on the other hand how many good HG midfielders are there. JWP would be a really poor signing IMO and Gibbs White (who I think we where vaguely linked with a few weeks ago) would likely cost a lot what with his contract running out in 2027. TBH I think there's probably better value in Europe in this position but if we where determined to get a HG player in midfield then if we loose out on Maddison, Scott for 25 mil doesn't actually look that bad when looking at the other available players an d their price tags.

I also think at this stage he would either go to a side where he is going to be a first team player from the beginning, or go to a huge club where he can get a massive wage and develop.

I'm not sure we play him straight away and we're not big enough to spend such big money on potential.
He’s played 78 games the last 2 years in the championship, I don’t really see any reason why he couldn’t be a squad player straight away. He’s older than Dele was when he joined, and has played at a higher level. I think this is exactly the kind of signing we need to making regularly. Sure individually they are a gamble, but if you buy one a year after 4 years it’s not that optimistic to say you might have one star, one decent player and two busts and that’s good business even at the prices quoted

I'd hope so. I'm only speculating and guessing.

If we're looking to give him first team football from this season then we're a very attractive option for him. My assumption was we wouldn't, but naturally I don't know.

There's been talk of City being interested, so if he's looking to join with no guarantees of first team football, there's bigger fish than us interested.

But this is the Maddison thread so won't post on Scott again in this thread.

Him and his dad are huge huge spurs fans and his best friend plays for us.

If we want him we could get him.

Truth be told I don't think many , if anyone knows who we really do want and that's not a bad thing.

I was hoping not to post on Scott again in this thread so will tie my reply in with Maddison.

I'm always sceptical about if players being a fan of a club is that important a factor.

Maddison has spoken badly about us, publicly on Twitter, but here we are thinking there's a chance he could join us if we're the best career option for him.

That was a long time ago when Madison was a kid and whilst I don't think he is against joining us I also don't think he would rule out any top 8 team.

I have a strong feeling there is another team to come in for him and I also have a strong feeling our targets aren't out there yet and whilst we like Madison ( who wouldn't?) Were not prepared to get into a bidding war for him.

The last few seasons seems to have been a mix of us spending reasonably high money on at least 1 player to be a first team starter then a few younger players or new players to the league to develop and integrate.

I think Raya has a high chance of happening. Raya and Maddison with cost £70m+ combined but would be excellent ready made signings.

Depending on sales, we likely wouldn't have too much to spend outside of that. But if we want Maddison, we need to put up the money. He ain't coming cheap.

Don’t want to address this directly to @Trix but are we actually linked to signing Scott?

Maddison close to joining Newcastle, apparently.

Can't be true - I was informed by folk on here there's no reason to choose Newcastle over us.

The sooner this happens the better imo. With Maddison off to Newcastle and Kang-In looking like he’s off to PSG we do need to move on. I can’t help but feels like we end up with Hatate midway through the window tho.

Maddison apparently has 2 choices

Join a club who have owners with billions to invest who are determined to win trophies and will at any cost (see what's happened in golf and horse racing) but morally you'd hope he'd turn them down due to their ties to an awful regime or join a club that operates fairly using a sustainable model but with owners that are happy to tread water turning over a tidy profit each year with very little interest in winning trophies.

One would hope he would choose the morally correct decision to sign for us but I've not seen a recent footballer take this stance and money and trophies seem to be the priority for them all regardless of the regime they're getting paid by. The Le Tissier footballer no longer exists. I'd be amazed if he chose us over that lot.
By choosing us the player will benefit from having learnt financial prudence that'll have a lasting impact on how they manage their money after retirement. What's the use of earning more money that'll most likely be spent unwisely and dry up eventually when they can earn less and make it stretch better?

The player is smart, which means that we're in with a shout.

Indeed, I'm the one who posted it. Like I say I have a bit of an inside track Alex Scott. ;)

I still have a hunch that Hatate and a 10 could come in the same window obviously depending on outgoings.

To me, Hatate and Maddisson for example have different skill sets, yet both could be equally effective in Ange's system. Will have to see though.

Do agree that I hope we have alternate 10's to Mads since I think the only few remotely close to 10s are Kulu (not permanently signed) and Ndombele (probably should be a B2B, but we all know his strengths/weaknesses)

Will be good fun in 3/4 years when we are linked with Scott for double the fee.
