As far as i'm aware the City charges are all related to historic events (that seem certain to have happened) but City, over the past few years, are operating within the FFP guidelines - i think their recent transfer activity suggests as much.

Newcastle have so far seemed to be fairly conservative with the transfer cash, and wages offered, which i presume is because they are acutely aware of FFP and the scrutiny they'll be under.

I don't ever trust the powers that be to enforce things properly, but if they do, then Newcastle will take some time to become the powerhouse people think they already are. Their new sponsorship deal is fairly small still, but no doubt we will see these sort of deals increase in value yearly, until they get to Citys level.

At the moment i don't think they can offer more wages than us, nor outbid us on transfer fees (* if our chairman believes the transfer fee in question represents value)

Their sponsorships are still dodgy as fuck, which in turn boosts their FFP boundaries, as far as I'm aware.

You are assuming something is actually going to happen to City. And if there is one thing high paid lawyers and accountants are good at its finding loopholes.

People are acting like Newcastle being owned by a nation state means nothing, would those same people be saying the same if they had bought us? Would you be saying it doesn't matter and won't allow us to compete at the next level going forward or would you now be looking at targets that were beyond us before the purchase?

I'm not assuming anything.

There are reports that they only have £70m budget and will need to sell players this window or next to come within it. It is a bit annoying that they are in the CL as that will help them somewhat but they wont be spending loads more than that unless they get one of their Saudi clubs to put £100 million bids in for their players, which I suspect is possible.

I may be completely wrong but i'd have thought this summer we will have CL money, wheres Newcastle won't. Next summer the opposite will be true -working on the basis you receive the CL money at the end of your involvement in it, not before ???

Not sure how it works but I thinks it’s more about budgeting than when you get the money.

No one pays in full up front. So Newcastle can spend knowing CL money is coming in along the way.

It’s always a challenge bringing people in, if you haven’t got the opportunity to put a player in the spotlight, you have to throw money or a vision of how you will.

mots worth remember that most players aren’t supporters of the club they sign for either, so they don’t have that life long affinity to the club, and, as bad as this sounds, players are selfish in that respect, all of them want to play at the highest level, or earn the most money they can, those are facts, we can’t offer CL football, so it’s all down to a matter of the new boss selling a vision when competing with CL playing clubs.

Today yes, tomorrow probably not.
But how long will it take them unless their financials are heavily massaged and all clubs are now under greater scrutiny.
Latest figures all in euros millions from Deloitte , it's the only source where you can compare clubs
Spurs total revenue 523, commercial 215 , broadcasting 182 , matchday 125
Newcastle total revenue 212, commercial 33 , broadcasting 146 , matchday 33

They will probably overtake us on broadcasting this coming season but unless they more than double prices at St James no chance on matchday income and on commercial income they will have to strike some massive deals to get anywhere near us unless they resort to Man City tactics .

Ok ladies....I get what you're both saying.

In terms of history....us hands down. But history is the past.

In terms of future prospects, Newcastle.

Saudi money Vs Daniel Levy.

Maddison to Newcastle if they want him.

Literally this.

Nobody except Spurs fans think there's a case for Maddison moving to us ahead of Newcastle.

If we get him, it will be because Newcastle didn't want him.

There’s a SM post where he’s says he hates spurs and especially the monkey (Bale)

Personally I won't be upset if we don't get him, but then I can't actually explain why I didn't feel the same about Matt Doherty...

I see Geordies now in a position we were back in 16/17 but likely to have much more backing than we ever had - thank they are an attractive option, more so than us at the moment...can only see him or more likely his missus wanting to live in London over North East as the thing in our favour..

Newcastle aren’t a bigger draw until they consistently challenge at the top of the league. They’ve finished in the top half twice in the last 20 years …

One bad season and people are writing us off, we’ve got so many defeatist fans 🤦🏻‍♂️
Sadly the draw Newcastle have is endless money. The down side is you need a morality bypass to even consider joining them.

The fact is that right now the only thing we have over Newcastle is the fact we are in London. Other than that they can offer him more money, European football and the chance to be part of a team that is only going to get better over the next year or two. We very much are a club in decline right now - hoping we can turn it around with our new manager of course but let's be honest we are probably not a very attractive option vs any of the current top 6.

I have a bad feeling he’ll be in the Toon Army and not playing for us next season.
