I thought the stadium was meant to be making us a load of money. What is the point of the new stadium if it means we still have to be cautious and sensible.
Because we signed poorly, and weve sold fuck all. Every club needs the odd big outgoing, we havnt had one in years

Sorry I thought 70 mill sterling. 60 more like it, but these continental clubs really do see EPL buyers coming…
Tbh it’s not just PL clubs, look at Tchouaméni to RM, €80 mil. I still think you can certainly get quality young players for cheap but the more established younger stars who are already important players in bigger teams are going to be in the 50/60+ price range unless there are contract loopholes. It’s no longer about generational talents commanding those sort of massive numbers.

It has, but we are also still paying for it. Our wages are higher, our spend has been bigger recently also.

But once the stadium is all paid for and other areas sorted. It should pull us closer to state funded clubs!.... But nothing will compete with their money expect another state run club

Haaland wasnt prem proven, Bentancau, Kulu... List goes o ? Not sure that carries the weight so many people think it does. Cheaper but just as good or maybe not cheaper but easier to obtain, but just as good is fine with me! And does it really matter if it takes them a season or two to bed in, nothing to say a prem proven player wouldn't!
People always use this argument, what helps is if the player in question has experience playing in multiple leagues and has adapted to new leagues before.

Also it helps if they are physical, not just strong but fit. (See Ndombele)

You can take Haaland as an example, he had played in Norway, Austria and Germany before England. Absolutely no questions on his physique.

Not a guarantee, but history of adapting to a new country and good physical attributes should be priority.

Two players we have been linked to recently that imo would be very risky are Pau Torres and Bastoni. Both have never left the country and in the case if Torres he has never left Villarreal.

I'm not saying they won't work out but it would be riskier.

It is ideal if they have been successful in the PL, but you pay a premium for PL based players.

A good current example is Barrela, supposedly available for 50m and Maddison is apparently valued higher.

Barrela is the better player (arguably) and has a longer contract, however you would be paying less money for him. But can he adapt? It's risky.

Still though if Leicester are after 50m+ for James Maddison they are going to struggle to sell him.

Tonali at that price is mind bogglingly poor business. He is still hyped up on his time as a wonderkid, he's never gotten close to the level people thought he might.
Hes had his best season yet mind, and is quite clearly developing season on season it's just his initial hype was a bit overboard. But I tend to agree with the sentiment. I would think Maddison is about the same value as Tonali. I think Maddison is currently the better player but Tonali has more potential, not that they are like for like.

So why did we put ourselves £1 billion into debt to build a stadium if we can't compete anyway? Our wages to turnover ratio is around 47% which is one of the lowest in the Premier League. Spending £100 million on transfers considering the income we have isn't a huge amount.

Stadium pays for itself and increase our spending power so that's reason in itself. Us not being able to compete with sovereign states isn't exactly a reason to lie down and die.
We don't have an owner that puts money into us, we're self-sustained, what we earn is put back into the team. There's not much leftover when half goes to wages, 1/4 to transfers and down payment on stadium. If we'd still be at WHL we probably would have had a 50m transfer budget. This is the reality and real world.

Maybe if we started shifting the players we need to then maybe, just maybe we can start offering 40-50m for certain players .

we have all these players out on loan coming back . Ndomble. lo celso, winks , rodan , reguilion. All you would imagine do t have a future here.

then we have the players in last seasons squad . Lloris , sessengon, Sanchez, tanganga, pericic, possibly Hojberg and dier that could all do with going if we are going to improve the squad .

not defending levy and club but we have so much deadwood that needs shifting probably around 200m worth.

so until then I guess the club ain’t going gung ho like we did last summer getting players in early .

I think he's worth 50 million in todays market regardless of the one year left..

Certainly he is to us if the manager wants him...with his proven pedigree.

They are not pushing at 60M. Nothing is there. You never know later on. But no activities presently
Thanks @Hercules. Interested to know how it works if we spend our budget on others and then he becomes available for say £40- £50m later? Or do we just give until a certain period and move on?

I guess you just have to hope Leicester pay notice to what we did with the keeper and are willing to sell for a realistic fee. This is one position I don't mind running and being done later in the window. I'd be happy to get a keeper and 2 centre backs before pre season.

Yeah I can see us focusing on other areas and revisiting this once Leicester start to get twitchy later in the window.

As has been said, could we not offer a couple of players to Leicester either on loan or for a fee? Devine could be great at Leicester on loan

I thought this too and surprised it hasn’t been mooted more. I guess it might be difficult convincing Prem players to drop down a league. Would have thought Tanganga and Sess or winks would be good fits for them

I was chatting the other day that I could see this one dragging on unless the club are just as high on an alternative.

You almost need Maddison to kick up a fuss and Leicester to see that they're not going to get 60 for it to work out for us

Can't help but think that the Mount situation isn't helping us here. For me, Maddison is the superior player, so with Chelsea holding out for £65m for Mount, it stands to reason that Leicester wouldn't want far off that for Maddison even though he's a couple of years older.

I'm hoping it doesn't, but this does feel like one that could drag on for a while. Leicester need to sell but they'll want to invite more bidders and drive up the price as much as possible.

Mason Mount is going for £55m + add ons, so I don’t really blame Leicester for their price tbh.
