Maybe but it sets a price and can drag negotiations on even longer. Ultimately if it’s a choice between a team like West Ham who pay the fee and another season in the championship I’m sure he’d go there. Let’s hope it Donets come to that and we move quickly 👍
Rather stay in Championship than get stuck in another relegation battle at WH

Think this really needs to gather some pace this week. We heard it should pick up after the internationals. As other people have said if we don’t move then other clubs will. We all know we love a transfer saga but how many do we actually come out of the other side with said player? In my memory we always seem to lose the drawn-out ones

We're a very, very rich football club. I'm surprised how many spurs fans on here seem to worry more about protecting the club's finances than they do about getting the right players in place.
It's not just about the clubs finances, it's about the precedent it sets. If we just go and pay the first price the selling club wants, then every club with whom we negotiate for a player will just add 10 - 20% because they know we'll pay it! Not a smart business model, and it will severely impact our finances!

He will if they insist on 60m is the point. I expect he gets sold for less because they don't have a lot of room to negotiate. I'm just using the prospect of being free next year as an example of how we would value him. That's how you negotiate the cost down.
Yeah, maybe. I do get your point. I just think there is a long way to go in the window. Only us and Newcastle linked now, but that can change in a heartbeat.

I get that, but quite often our valuations are unreasonably low. The market has changed. We also need to appreciate that we are in competition with other clubs for some of these players. Digging in our heels and low balling in negotiations isn't going to get us anywhere.

I agree with the sentiment. But the other side is - nobody else is paying the asking price either.

I think if this gets done it’ll be towards the end of the window ( which isn’t ideal if he misses most of pre season ). We are either waiting for Leicester to panic and lower the fee or see whether Leicester accept an offer from another team and either match it or move on.

There is absolutely no way we can afford to wait until towards the end of the window to complete such a key signing, we get it done asap and if that isn’t possible we should move on.

I personally think it will get done sooner rather than later and I’ll be absolutely delighted with the signing.

Then I hope we do what we did with Raya. Have an alternative in mind and move swiftly.

A ACM is for me not priority when both Lo celso and Kulu for me could be players for that role in a Ange system. GK (seems done) and CBs first and foremost and then focus on the outgoings.

Nothing groundbreaking - but from the new Ally Gold article:

"The Austrailian is a big fan on James Maddison, as are both Levy & Paratici, and the Spurs chairman is looking to drive through a deal for the Leicester midfielder in the coming weeks."

Lo Celso seems to be 100% off and if Kulu plays that role then we have a hole at RW and need a player there.

Don't understand why we can't work on CB & AM at the same time (which we're seemingly doing).

What's Paratici got to do with it now?

Of course we can work on more than one deal at a time. We just hear about stuff that is either news worthy or just clickbait, but there'll be stuff going on the whole time in the background as in targets, backup options, loans etc..
