Just saw that we're playing Leicester as our second pre-season game [after West Ham]. Considering they need as much funds as possible from his sale, I'm not sure that friendly has any bearing whatsoever on the timing of when they would sell to us.

He could play the first half for Leicester, sign the contract at half time and swap shirts and play for us second half

Haven’t we been told winks always turns his nose up at transfer like this and lower league prem clubs. Let’s hope he’s more open to it now.
He should take what he can get at this point. Don't think any PL clubs will be looking at him and, while he seemed to do OK there when he wasn't injured, Sampdoria came bottom and got relegated last season which tells you the level of club that are looking at him.

It's likely either a club like Leicester where he'll have a decent shot at promotion or a lower mid-table French/Italian/Spanish side that will probably pay him even less than he'd earn in the Championship.

I dunno if he has. Once his contract at Spurs is up next year, he will have to swallow his pride or retire.

If the sell on clause they have with Norwich is true, I wonder if a part-ex with Winks might be interesting to them. Not sure if Winksy would go to Championship though.

Huge signing if this comes off. Really think he could be the catalyst to us playing really good football again and how great it will be to finally have a real threat and decent source of goals and assists from midfield.

Might be unpopular with some here but Winks would absolutely boss the Championship.
He won't. Too soft, some of the teams there will eat him alive.spain or Italy would suit him better. Anyway nevermind, this is the Maddison thread, not a player I expected Ange to prioritise, however if its who he wants, it's great that we seem close to bringing him in early in the window.

Alot of momentum now coming on this deal but much like with Raya, i'm still of the opinion if Leicester just won't budge enough on price then we will happily turn to other targets.

I think the noises feel a bit more positive on this one than the Raya deal. It actually feels like Leicester want to negotiate, at least to some degree, whereas Brentford seemed like they weren't going to budge from the £40m asking price at all.

I am the only person not really all that excited about potentially signing Maddison?

I mean if we did sign him I would want him to do really well but at the moment I don't really feel strongly one way or the other.
I'm with you there.
I know he's a good player, his stats are good, he's just what we need etc but yet, I'm just not keen.
Not really sure why but I'm just not fussed about him.

Probably because he has a face that you would love to punch. Comes across to me very smug and a bit of a knobhead.

Obviously I would cheer him on if he was our knobhead

Leicester have to negotiate in their current plight but it's whether they'll drop their asking price quick enough for us as ideally Maddison would be involved in the upcoming tour.

Winks being linked by Percy who's got strong Leicester/Midlands links gives me hope that there's a deal to be done for all parties.
