£40mil is excellent if that's the final figure too. The 'savings' we've made on going for Vicario over Raya and knocking good money off Maddison should leave us in a fantastic spot for addressing CB now.

Say what you (rightly) want about how the last 24 months have gone, our actions this summer are how a well run club operate.

It seems to be and maybe the penny finally dropped after a miserable couple of seasons

In fairness, we'd done good business even earlier than this last season. I think things have definitely changed in that respect. The rest of the shitshow though...jury's out.

I was pretty nonchalant about this but now he has signed in convinced he is the second coming of Glenn Hoddle.

No idea what Ange has in his mind regarding tactics but the thought of Bissouma, Bentancour, Maddison, Sonny, Kulu and Kane playing together is mouth watering.

Ah, that appears to be me :D. I obviously had a premonition.

Good thing is Maddison ain’t really young anymore ( well at least for a footballer, I’m still old enough to be his Dad :().

Crazy comparing 40m for Maddison against 100m+ for Rice as well. I know they're different positions and Maddison's circumstances but still, is Rice 2.5x better than Maddison?

Rice is younger with more potential to grow. Also there is an auction for his sale so West Ham can push the fee up.

I agree we did well last summer early (Perisic aside), but you have to admit it feels different this summer. The quality and versatility of players we're brining in feels so much smarter than in the last couple of years. Don't want to get ahead of myself, but it feels quite exciting.

Surprised westam aren’t spending some of the Rice money on Maddison to be honest. They need a complete overhaul too!

Our new assistant Chris Davies has worked with Maddison for the last four years which should hopefully really help with Ange getting the best out of him.

I’m not sure it feels any different, the place was buzzing after we signed Bissouma out of the blue one Tuesday morning.

We've signed one player so far (kulu doesn't count, neither does porro)

Said I expected 40m plus add ons, just felt right really. They wanted 60m and we wanted 40m so sort of meet in the middle with 40m plus add ons. I imagine it will get to around 50m. Well happy with that, always felt with 1 year left it should be 50m tops. It's so important to get good deals done on the keeper and now seemingly Maddison. If it helps get the extra funds together for the all important centre back it's great business. In other words don't just cough up 60m because he's an important player, actually use the fact he wanted to come here and his contract running down along with their relegation.

The difference for me is they feel more 1st team starters which is what we really need. Last summer felt more like good squad competition signings. Bissouma was the only one I really felt would improve the first team.
