He’s been a great servant of the club and if he wishes to stay on here after the expiry of his current contract, I’d like the club to offer him a 2+1 year new contract.

He’s happy here and we’re happy with him.

He would be a great mentor to the young defenders in our squad for the next few Seasons.

The over 30 policy is honestly ludicrous. Such an arbitrary barometer as every player and person is different. Jan could play for another 3/4 years at this level in my eyes. We need to reward our experienced leaders, especially as we have the likes of Toby heading for the exits.

over 30 policy was the policy that killed wenger. hopefully we dont follow that path. with sports science these days athlete's career and prime has be lengthen and prolonged, 30s these days are like 26 in the past.

If we dont offer Vertonghen another contract ill be royally pissed off. He has been the consummate professional and how can we expect players to be loyal to us if we arent going to be loyal to players who have done so much...

Poch has said on a few occasions that jan is able to play for a few more years at the highest level so I’m hoping that means a contract extension will be on the table. 2/3 year extension and get him into the coaching set up!

Poch is just a coach - it is absolutely nothing to do with him. He says.

I’m usually the optimist but a rest is not starting, but still being on the bench. Hoping Poch just misspoke.
