we do not sell walker UNLESS he pushes for a move, plain and simple. but if he does leave, he is NOT irreplaceable.
walker is a phenomenal athlete that allows him to bomb up and down the pitch. but his offensive and defensive awareness is NOT top class.
he is out of position( in both offense and defense ) most of the time but his athletism and pace allows him to reach where he should have been tactically, even if he reacts late to it.
every player has his pros and cons and this is just what walker is. if a player like walker develops trippier's attacking awareness and technicality then he would become a 70m full back, we are talking about becoming top 3 rb in the world, fucking dani alves in his prime
right now hes arguably top 10 in the world, and you dont let a top 10 rb leave unless you absolutely have to.
that being said, because of the system poch implements, we can have a slightly inferior athlete and still flourish better than walker.
this is exactly the case for trippier.
right now the walker/trippier situation is different from the rose/davies situation because not only rose dribbles better and crosses just as well as davies, he is also a far better athlete making him the bonafide first choice and absolute perfect player in poch system.
walker trippier situation on the other hand, if we compare player to player, walker would be a much better player in a traditional back 4 system because he is the far better athlete.
but because we play with a back 3 nowadays, the responsibility of a FB to support attacks is actually more important than defending because the back mostly guarded by a right sided centre back.
if you are not fast enough in a back 4 formation you are pretty much fucked the moment you dont get back in time (thus benefitting walker more), but in a back 3, as long as you have decent pace, it wouldnt be as big of a problem.
to put it simply, walker is the better traditional back 4 player but trippier is a player whose traits suits our current formation more. this is a great problem to have though, giving us the option to rotate fullbacks depending on which formation we play.
