I've been saying this for a while. Trippier is good against teams who play a deep block and barely attack. Whenever I've seen Trippier against attacking teams with pace he gets troubled. I think Poch is testing him for the big games to see how he copes before making a decision on a new rb.
It's not even like he's a poor defender, it's just that his lack of pace will inevitably cost us in some games.

I must admit. I felt better when Kyle came on, and I'm a fan of Trippier.

Will be sad if he leaves tbh. There aren't many better.

Walker has long been one of my favourite players, love the way he's always at the heart of our celebrations when we score but above all he's an extremely good defender and immensely undervalued by some on here.

Poch has improved him in the attacking sense so it's no surprise that his season has hit such heights.

I like Trippier and his crossing ability is better than Walker's. More often than not he crosses first time without taking a touch so defenses can't set themselves to predict and cut out/block the cross. Walker needs to learn from him in that regard but the quality of the cross is so good at times.

Tripper is also very good at playing cute little passes down the sides and channels when others offer good movement.

However it was plain to see the gulf in defensive ability today. The modern fullback, and of course in our system and style, has to offer a lot in attack but defensive robustness is still a prerequisite for me to be considered top quality.

Walker may not offer the same finesse in the attacking third but his pace still causes a lot of problems. Overall he's most definitely the superior package.

Poch improved him in the attacking sense, the question is, if indeed he is to go, can he improve Trippier in the defensive sense...

(I sincerely hope we keep him if it's not an untenable situation)

I don't think its his pace, I think he gets his positioning wrong at times and is slow to react.

He was flat footed when martial beat him... You stand him up and a pacey attacker can attack.

You're right his positioning is lacking but I think his body position is what the issue is. He was head on with martial but when walker cam on he was always at an angle ready if martial tried to go on his left etc

The body language didnt look great I must say.

Whilst watching the rainbow appear at white hart lane the camera caught this moment.
Walker standing on his own looking over the moon. Didn't look great and could be coincidence

Any worse than Eric Dier looking an absolute misery on the walk round ? Players apart from the odd few like Kane are transient. they come and go. We will always still be here.

To be honest the drop in quality is very similar to when Davies comes in for Rose - Davies got smashed for pace twice as well today and you know Rose wouldn't have been. That doesn't mean Davies isn't a good player - I'm a fan of his - but at the end of the day the simple fact is that we have the two best fullbacks in the whole league, and if we sell one, we will no longer be able to say that. We'll be saying we've got the best left back but the best right back has gone to City.

A real shame.

Trying not to read too much into it at all he moment, but I thought Walker looked isolated from the rest of the squad during the walk around

Not necessarily.

It doesn't always work out, it's not guaranteed he will slot straight in and be as good as he has been.

Not saying he won't, but he might not

You're right but they minimise their risk greatly by signing the leagues current best right back. The chances of a foreign player with no EPL experience slotting straight in are a lot higher. I'd rather not make it easy for them.

I think this is a great philosophy as long as Poch then actually plays them when he has a chance to. Onomah's been with the first team squad at least a couple of years now and he's not even getting on the pitch when we are 4-0 up with 35 minutes to go. Kind of makes the whole philosophy redundant somewhat.

Make of it what you will, but Poch name dropped Onomah, along wit Walker-Peters and Edwards, as younglings he would be looking to give more pitch-time next season.

Poch does have a tremendous record for bringing kids through, at Espanyol (through necessity), at Southampton, and with us. He kept Harry Winks with the first team for a season while hardly putting him on the pitch. That's all changed this season, once he thought the lad was ready. I see no reason to believe it will be any different with Onomah.

Sad if he goes not going to underestimate his loss. He's a colossal player for us. But not going to hold a grudge if he leaves. Best of luck to the guy he's always been 100% while he's been with us.
