I think people forget with Lennon that he wasn’t bought to start straight away. But thanks to a pre-season injury to Routledge he got more game time than expected quicker than expected.
Yeah, Lennon was just us stealing a youth prospect cheap due to Leeds having "done a Leeds", he wasn't bought for the first team but due to Routledge's misfortune he got a chance and grabbed it with both hands.
I remember my Leeds mate, the one who basically told me we got Clarke too early, being well pissed off at us nicking Lennon because he was their top prospect and they were all excited to see him develop at Leeds.

Yeah but he certainly didn't hit the ground running and make an immediate impact.
He scored a few goals in his first season didn't he? Scored v Arsenal, Fulham and I think Boro in the league cup? Just because he had that never won a league game record around his neck people think he wasn't that great to begin with. But he did make an impact early on.

I think there was a Fulham game where he scored 1 or 2 and absolutely ran the show. But the game finished 3-3 or something weird, and contributed to a long run where we didn't win if Bale played. But if you were watching games you could see he had tons of ability.

He scored in his first few games, including a free kick against arsenal. Then he got injured and had a nightmare for a couple of seasons.
Yeah, he basically had a period of growing into the specimen he became.
I wouldn't say he was a hit from the start though, through no fault of his own, just because he was young and growing.

Someone like Lennon didn't have that final growth spurt to contend with physically because I think he stopped growing at 12! 😁

Yeah, he had a stuttering start down to the fact he was growing.
You could see he had some quality but it was just whether he could shake the niggling injuries he was picking up.

That's the only reason I would say he wasn't a hit from the start and nowadays, that would be more than enough for certain sections on here to start complaining.

And also he was played LW by martin Jol as well! All the revisionist think that Redknapp did it first! Anyway sorry off tangent.
bergvall as strong technical qualities which we lack. Of course less time on the ball in a higher league means these will be dampened but he will be comfortable enough to contribute offensively immediately

Much better performance from Lucas. Really looks comfortable in the 8 role. You can also see that he's dishing out some challenges and adding more physicality to his play.

Xavi staying at Barca for another season apparently. Thank goodness they had their brainfart at just the right time or Lucas might have been out of our grasp.

I thought he'd be used as a 6 but he's coming in as an 8 I reckon.

Probably start next season with Bentancur and give Bergval minutes and EL games.

Reminds me a lot of Dele - not really stylistically - but just in confidence, and innate football intelligence. He does so many things instinctively.

Yeah, see that. I watched all of his touch cut-ups for the past few matches in a row and I think what stuck out to me is how technically advanced he is, but also that he does get a little lazy (for lack of a better word) with his technique, at times. Sloppy on the dribble, loose with the pass. Very much a thing that comes with youth, but it struck me that it very likely is probably the competition and him knowing he’s probably already too good for that league. It’s petty jarring when you see how superior he looks against a majority of the opponents. At 18.

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised to see him become one of those players that just seems to be able to acclimatize quickly and really show what he can do immediately. Just seems to have that about him, and boy wouldn’t that be lovely?

Playing for a trophy at the moment. Half time in their cup final, 0-0
Trying to watch but it's not easy with these kits...
