He is big pals withReece Oxford of West Ham. Remember seeing Reece play for England under19 at 17 yrs old. Looked in a different class to the rest. Couple of loans to Germany later and he is sold to Augsburg for about 6m. We won’t get that for Marcus. Pleased to see Poch not overpraising youth any more. He went over the top with Marcus, CCV and to an extent Onomah. Does them no favours.
Did they really get £6m got Oxford ? What’s he really done that Edwards hasn’t.
Even at his age and also early in his career he is in all probability on several thousand pounds a week and he is very privileged .
To not turn up on time for training quite regularly as I understand is showing disrespect for his loan club / players also his parent club namely Spurs. This young man is going to disappear up his own arse unless there is some kind of seed change in his attitude. but I won't be holding my breath for a positive outcome .
So while he's on loan, Marcus has been
* Taking criticism in stride
* Doing extra work after training
* Staying home and avoiding the partying scene
* Taking responsibility for his development and progress
* Giving his all to help the team avoid relegation
* Watching and supporting Spurs from afar
Even at Excelsior, his loan spell ended with him starting on the bench.
Edwards is fighting for his career, a team will take a chance on him lower down but he could easily be out of football within a few years if the next move does not work out. He has no contract or bargaining power to get a deal that will force a team to invest in playing him for a few seasons, its either buckle down and work hard or teams will just toss him aside.
Its completely down to him.
He's coming off a season where he just played almost 2000 minutes in the top tier of Dutch football. Comments like this are very over-dramatic.
Yea more often than not teams tend to play players more if they own them than if they own unless there is some sort of clauseA massive difference between a club playing him on loan to a team actually investing money into a contract with a player who has personal and work ethic issues.
Is there any interest in Marcus Edwards? I haven't seen any, he will get a few chances at teams willing to take a gamble but on deals where they can get rid of him easily. Unfortunately he has the tag of being a problem and he will have to fight through it with performances and effort. If he doesn't he will drop very quickly because his next deal won't be a 3 year/5k a week guaranteed, it will be bonus related with termination options, his value is very low and teams and managers won't have any pressure to play him because hes on a big contract, he will be purely judged on how hard he works and performances.
I get that some want to back Marcus but if you choose to ignore a bad attitude and absence from training which several times are on record then that's fine . Well as was famously said in a Clint Eastwood film " don't piss up my back and tell me its raining "
What is on record on many occasions at different clubs is a record that defines his character and I choose what is in front of my eyes and that being that this young man unless there is some seismic change is doomed to mediocracy.
If you choose to not believe the facts of his behaviour that is your choice but trying to imply that he is a Stella pro then telling me my view of the known printed facts are wrong then as I say "don't piss up my back and tell me its raining".
i would suggest giving this article a read.
or if you can't be bothered then @SlumDilla summarised it well here:
not entirely true as he started their relegation playoff 2nd leg decider. he had started every game from january onwards but when the new manager came with a few games left they went more defensive by playing two right backs but it didn't work out.
Well unless the words of the Norwich manager were reported wrongly or indeed the written facts on his Excelsior tenure then that is where I am getting my facts including what I have witnessed with my own eyes.
Conversely show me that facts that this young man is worth the effort and in fact what has been said and written about him at Norwich and Excelsior is a load of tosh and the real Marcus is a stand up fellow not just what you say but what some involved party has to say that is pro Marcus then I will concede that my facts are falsehoods wrote by liars.
